EDUCOM Initiates Demonstration of AI Screening System
In a significant move towards enhancing educational support systems,
EDUCOM, a company providing comprehensive school management solutions across Japan, has announced the commencement of a demonstration test. This project involves the integration of their unified school management system,
C4th, with the
YOSS AI screening system, developed in collaboration with the
Yamano Laboratory of
Osaka City University. The demonstration is part of the 2025 new project initiative under the
Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), focusing on research and development for societal technology.
Background of the Demonstration
In Japan, issues like child poverty, young caregivers, and abuse have intensified, making the early detection of student challenges within the educational environment increasingly crucial. However, teachers face significant workload pressures, often leading them to manage these challenges independently, which hinders smooth educational processes.
This demonstration project, adopted under the JST/RISTEX's program aimed at achieving
SDGs, seeks to validate the utility of using C4th data within educational settings by establishing a potentially scalable model for nationwide implementation.
Details of the Pilot Program
The demonstration will leverage data essential for screening, stored within the
C4th system, which is currently implemented in over 11,000 schools nationwide. The integration with the
YOSS screening system will allow for practical evaluations based on real educational operations data.
Project Overview
- - Project Name: Achieving a Future Society for All Children - Development of a School-Based Screening System through School Management System Integration.
- - Lead Researcher: Noriko Yamano, Professor at Osaka City University, Graduate School of Contemporary System Science.
- - Collaborating Partner: Satoshi Shimomura, Director of the Educational System Research Institute at EDUCOM.
Key Focus Areas for Validation
1.
Reducing Teacher Workload: Daily records of student attendance and visit logs to the school nurse will be automatically formatted for ease of transfer to YOSS.
2.
Early Detection of Student Challenges: YOSS will identify students who may require assistance, enabling timely interventions.
3.
Realization of a 'Team School' Approach: Utilizing objective AI data allows for information sharing across educational professionals, thereby preventing the isolation of challenges to individual teachers.
Future Developments
EDUCOM aims to analyze insights and outcomes from this demonstration to improve system accuracy and versatility collaboratively with Osaka City University. Furthermore, based on the data utilization models established through this project, the company plans to standardize system integration with YOSS and expand its operations nationwide. This is intended to enhance teacher well-being and promote the healthy development of children.
About YOSS and C4th
