Rayssa Leal Dominates Women's Street Skateboarding at the 2025 SLS Brasília Takeover

The skateboarding world witnessed yet another remarkable achievement as 17-year-old Rayssa Leal from Imperatriz, Brazil, secured first place in the women's division of the 2025 SLS Brasília Takeover street skateboarding competition on July 14, 2025. Hosted in Brasília, Brazil's capital, this event marked a new contest format introduced by Street League Skateboarding (SLS), further elevating the energy and excitement surrounding the sport.

Monster Energy celebrated Leal's victory, emphasizing her outstanding performance that showcased both style and technical skill. As a global ambassador for skateboarding, Leal’s win further cements her status as a leading icon in the sport. She has already established a formidable reputation, winning three consecutive SLS Super Crown World Championships.

The SLS Brasília Takeover was the second of four Spot Takeover events this season, which aim to provide a festival-like atmosphere at iconic skate locations where skaters vie for SLS ranking points that could lead to the prestigious SLS Super Crown World Championship. The custom-built street course at Esplanada dos Ministérios served as the perfect setting for this event, with expectations high among fans and competitors alike. This year, each woman in the finals had seven attempts to land their best trick, with the top three scores counting towards the total.

Leal prepared thoroughly and remained focused throughout her attempts, quickly taking the lead with a stunning kickflip frontside boardslide that earned her 6.8 points. She didn’t stop there, impressively following up with a backside Smith grind down the big Hubba for 7.0 points, showcasing her technical prowess. Maintaining her lead, she executed a frontside bluntslide for 6.2 points.

To seal her victory, Leal executed a technical 360 kickflip down the three-stair set, achieving the highest score of the day at 8.0 points. This brought her total score to 21.8 points, unmatched by any competitor. Even in her final run, she attempted a hurricane grind, adding an exhilarating element to her already triumphant day. The ecstatic crowd rallied around Leal, celebrating her fourteenth victory in an SLS competition.

After her win, Leal expressed her joy saying, "I don't know what to say, I am super happy now. I'm with my family here, and this trophy is for my little brother. I'm super happy for this!" Looking towards the remainder of the SLS season, Leal mentioned, "The Super Crown is going to be crazy. I'm super excited and a little nervous, I'm not going to lie, but it's going to be fun!"

The excitement was also palpable in the Men's Takeover final, where 23-year-old Giovanni Vianna from Santo André, Brazil, showcased impressive skills as he claimed second place. The crowd was treated to a spectacle of elite technical skateboarding from various top names in the sport. Vianna opened strong with a Caballerial frontside bluntslide that secured him 7.5 points. As he executed impressive tricks like the frontside Half Cab backside Smith grind, which scored 8.7 points, and a Caballerial nosegrind fakie landing him a whopping 9.4 points, the tension in the arena heightened. Although Vianna ultimately placed second, narrowly missing the top spot by 0.1 points, he captivated spectators with incredible displays of skill.

The event not only highlighted Leal's talent but also reinforced the vibrant culture of street skateboarding embracing all generations. Fans were able to participate in the atmosphere filled with excitement, where skate competitions were live-streamed to a global audience, demonstrating the sport's growing popularity.

As the 2025 SLS season continues, anticipation builds for the next event scheduled in Cleveland, Ohio, on August 9, 2025. With further competitions planned in Paris, France, and the ultimate SLS Super Crown World Championship set for December 6-7 in São Paulo, Brazil, the skateboarding community eagerly awaits what thrilling performances are yet to unfold.
