Huey Magoo's Unveils Innovative Drive-Thru Model to Boost Franchise Growth and Real Estate Flexibility

Huey Magoo's Expands Horizons with a New Drive-Thru Prototype

Huey Magoo's, the popular fast-casual restaurant chain famed for its premium, hand-crafted chicken tenders, is embarking on a new journey by launching a free-standing drive-thru prototype. This innovative building design not only promises to bolster the company's franchise growth but also aims to provide greater flexibility in site selection, offering franchisees a more accessible path to venture into the business.

Traditionally known for their engaging dine-in experiences, Huey Magoo's is now pivoting to accommodate the modern consumer's demand for convenience without sacrificing the quality that patrons have come to expect. By focusing on creating a smaller footprint, the new drive-thru model symbolizes the brand's commitment to cost-effective development strategies. The latest prototype measures approximately 1,850 square feet, featuring a practical blend of indoor and outdoor spaces designed to serve diners efficiently.

Cutting Costs, Not Corners

One of the significant selling points of this drive-thru prototype is the estimated 40% decrease in overall development costs, making it considerably more affordable for franchisees looking to invest in Huey Magoo's. At approximately 40 feet wide and 50 feet deep, this new layout can fit comfortably on half-acre plots that might have been previously overlooked. Additionally, both indoor and outdoor seating arrangements are designed to welcome 37 guests inside and another 18 outside on a patio, ensuring a comfortable dining experience regardless of where customers choose to sit.

Andy Howard, the president and CEO of Huey Magoo's, emphasized the need for this new approach amidst rising costs in real estate and construction. "Our focus was to create a scalable, cost-effective design that empowers franchisees to develop their outlets while still maintaining the essence of the Huey Magoo's brand experience," he shared during the launch announcement.

This shift follows the impressive success of a condensed inline model introduced in 2025, which successfully reduced build-out costs while still enhancing the customer experience. As the brand evolves, the introduction of the drive-thru option reflects their commitment to innovate and respond to consumer needs efficiently.

In-House Design Enhancements

The design of the drive-thru model was spearheaded by Melissa McCammack, the director of architecture and design for Huey Magoo's. According to her insights, the objective was to create a layout that maximizes efficiency for both guests and team members. By honing in on the flow of service areas — including the kitchen, dining, and ordering zones — unnecessary circulation was minimized, resulting in a streamlined design that improves the overall operational effectiveness while enhancing the diner’s experience.

The building's architecture is pleasing to the eye, with a pitched roofline and spacious windows that invite natural light into the dining area, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Moreover, the modern farmhouse aesthetic utilizing wood siding and dark trims aligns with contemporary design trends while still maintaining approachable familiarity.

Embracing Technology and Efficiency

In this new era of fast-casual dining, operational efficiency is paramount. Adaptations in technology also reflect this understanding, with features like a fully digital menu board system enabling easy updates and market-specific adjustments. The design also leaves room for extra storage or cooler space, aligning with diverse operational needs.

Franchisees will appreciate that size and space constraints are significantly alleviated, allowing more potential locations while improving the financial viability of investments made. It is forecasted that, with these enhancements, Huey Magoo's can better respond to evolving customer preferences and the competitive landscape of the dining industry.

Expansion in Numbers

Building on a foundation of nearly 90 operational locations across 12 states with plans to exceed 100 by the end of the year, Huey Magoo's continues to position itself as a front-runner in the fast-casual space. Franchisees are typically encouraged to open three locations over three years, ensuring their establishment is well-rooted within their communities. Ideal candidates are those with prior restaurant experience, which aids in building a robust and enduring presence in both existing and new markets.

In essence, Huey Magoo's drive-thru prototype represents an exciting chapter in the brand's growth narrative. As they strive to combine delicious food with a fresh take on service models, customers and franchisees alike can look forward to a more convenient dining experience, not just at the drive-thru but also within its dining establishments.
