FirstEnergy Corp. Appoints Nick Pearson as Vice President of Federal Government Affairs
FirstEnergy Corp., a major player in the energy sector, has announced the appointment of Nick Pearson as its new Vice President of Federal Government Affairs. This strategic decision, effective from April 7, aims to enhance the company’s engagement with federal energy policy, thereby impacting its customers, employees, and operational effectiveness.
An Experienced Addition to the Team
Pearson, who brings over 22 years of diverse experience in government relations, public policy, and business, will be taking the reins of FirstEnergy's Washington, D.C. office. His role will center on steering the company's strategy regarding federal energy issues that are pivotal to its stakeholders. Pearson reports directly to Amanda Mertens Campbell, the company’s Vice President of External Affairs, who expressed confidence in Pearson’s ability, stating, "Nick's energy industry knowledge, coupled with his years of experience working on Capitol Hill, will be instrumental in advocating for our customers and business as the nation's energy landscape continues to evolve."
A Record of Achievement
Previously, Pearson served as the Head of Congressional Affairs for Google Cloud, where he effectively collaborated with various government entities and industry leaders to foster competition in cloud services. His work centered on promoting the burgeoning role of cloud technology in key areas such as artificial intelligence, energy, and national security. Before his tenure at Google, he was the Global Head of Energy Policy at the tech giant and managed multiple government affair responsibilities within the company.
Pearson’s background is deeply rooted in energy policy, having led the Washington, D.C. office for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). At TVA, he engaged in significant energy policy discussions, addressing topics from nuclear energy to transmission planning. His outreach initiatives involved critical interactions with federal agencies, including the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the U.S. Department of Energy.
A Commitment to Public Service
Nick Pearson's political journey includes contributions to several state and federal campaigns in Georgia, alongside a previous role as Vice President of Government and Political Affairs for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. There, he represented the interests of a vast membership base of 4,500 members. Early in his career, he lent his skills to the legislative staff of U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson and the Georgia General Assembly.
Pearson holds a Bachelor of Science in political science and speech communications from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. His dedication to the community is evidenced by his involvement with boards like the Georgia State Society and Everybody Wins! DC, alongside volunteer efforts with the District of Columbia Public Education Foundation.
