Exploring Well-Being: The Fifth Issue of 'Komebito' by Shimada Group

Discovering Well-Being in 'Komebito'

Shimada Group, headquartered in Shibuya, Tokyo, has recently released the fifth volume of its comprehensive magazine, 'Komebito'. Building on the theme of "Well-being", which signifies a state of being fulfilled both physically and mentally, this issue unveils the deeper meanings behind this concept.

Overview of the Fifth Issue

The opening essay, titled "Renaissance of Life", is penned by winning Akutagawa Prize author and multidisciplinary artist, Jinsei Tsuji. He shares his reflections on life's journey, integrating various aspects of well-being into our everyday lives. The magazine also dives into Japan's rich spiritual heritage that finds joy in simple pleasures, while spotlighting the contemporary phenomenon of “oshi-katsu,” a popular trend of supporting one’s favorite idols or projects.

Additionally, the issue includes an insightful interview with renowned saxophonist, Sanshiro, who discusses the role of music in enhancing well-being. Complementing these themes, the magazine also features a special segment on the companionship provided by pets, particularly dogs and cats, emphasizing their contribution to our emotional health. Other contents include a recommendation for relaxing hot springs and a feature on the nourishing power of water and rice, integral to Japanese culture.

Cover Design Competition Results

In conjunction with the release of the fifth volume, Shimada Group conducted a cover design contest for 'Komebito'. The response was overwhelming, with a total of 383 entries coming from both domestic and international participants. After a careful selection process, Irasuke Sato, a painter and designer, was awarded the prize. His artwork uniquely captures the essence of rice cultivation and the resulting joy it brings to people, beautifully represented on a wooden canvas.
