Exciting New Educational Program for Local Children Kicks Off in Japan

Educational Initiative: Asu Town Launches

Introduction
Spin Owl Inc., based in Mitaka, Tokyo, has announced that the local co-creation educational project 'Asu Town,' organized by the general incorporated association Asu Town, will commence in three regions of Japan, including Osaka, Akita, and Saitama, starting from April 2026. This initiative is designed to connect local food and industries, nurturing the next generation of leaders. Building upon previous successes in six regions that involved over 600 participants, Asu Town is set to expand nationally through simultaneous implementations in multiple areas this year.

Background of Asu Town's Initiative
As Japan faces challenges such as a declining population and an aging society, a lack of interest in local communities and recognition of local businesses has become increasingly apparent. This situation has made sustaining community engagement and nurturing the next generation urgent matters. In response, Asu Town aims to create experiences that foster knowledge and pride in local areas through a partnership among athletes, local businesses, producers, and students. By using the 'challenging spirit' of top athletes as role models, the project intends to communicate the appeal of local food culture and industries, aiming to build sustainable community models.

Overview and Features of the Program
The program combines clinics led by top athletes in soccer and basketball with experiences centered around local food ingredients, fostering dialogues with local companies. This hands-on educational experience will span sports, food, and industry.

Key Features of the Program:

1. Experiencing the value of 'Challenge': Through guidance from top athletes, participants will learn not only skills but also about dreams and attitudes.
2. Understanding the region through food: Lunch gatherings featuring special bento made from local ingredients will facilitate connections with producers and local enterprises.
3. A Circular Educational Model: University students will participate in operations to support middle and high school students, fostering local leaders.

Comments from Key Figures
Shuta Takahashi, CEO of Spin Owl and Representative Director of Asu Town:
"Asu Town serves as a new learning environment where students can engage with local food, culture, and the passions of producers through sports. In our previous efforts, we have also aimed to create systems where high school students relay their learnings to elementary students, fostering an educational cycle within the community. Our goal is to expand these connections nationwide and embed local charms into the next generation."

Soichiro Fujitaka & Takuya Hashimoto (Osaka):
"Being born and raised in Kansai, we’ve supported each other while engaging in basketball. We feel deeply honored to be part of Asu Town in Osaka. Through this program, we hope kids not only enhance their skills but also appreciate the joy of taking on challenges and show gratitude to those who support them. As someone from this region, I see this as an opportunity to pass something valuable down to the next generation."

Takuya Nakayama & Raita Ako (Akita):
"Through our activities in Akita, we experience daily the support of many people. Our region has a wealth of nature, food, and warmth. We want to provide children with opportunities to enjoy basketball while also experiencing the values and appeal of the region. We hope this will spark a sense of pride and encourage them to take on future challenges."

Tomoya Ugakami (Saitama):
"Having been a soccer player for many years, I’ve walked alongside the local community. I strongly believe in the importance of helping children know and take pride in their local values. This partnership with Asu Town provides a perfect opportunity not only to share soccer skills but also to explore the treasures of our region through food and industry. I aspire to be a bridge that connects the benefits I have received from the community to the next generation."
