Watering Corporation Hosts the 2025 Environmental Safety Promotion Conference

Watering Corporation, led by President Masaki Yasuda and headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, organized the "2025 Environmental Safety Promotion Conference" on June 12, 2025. This event took place at the TODA Hall & Conference in Tokyo, aimed at renewing the commitment of employees and environment safety cooperation members towards enhancing safety awareness and pursuing a zero-accident, zero-disaster culture.

Background and Objectives

According to Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, the country emphasizes increasing workplace safety consciousness to prevent labor accidents through voluntary activities in the industrial sector. From July 1 to July 7, the ministry organizes the "National Safety Week," preceded by a preparation period throughout June. Hosting the conference during this preparatory phase aims to strengthen the safety mindset within Watering Corporation groups and their cooperation members, fostering a culture of safety and reinforcing the commitment to accident-free operations.

Safety Management Reporting

A report by the Ministry of Health reveals that while the number of fatal accidents in 2024 is expected to be lower than last year's record low, the incidence of injuries requiring more than four days off has increased. This rise has been partly attributed to an aging workforce, resulting in accidents caused by falls and back pains due to workplace behaviors.

Within the corporation's group, the recorded rate of lost-time injuries was 0.77 last year, showing stagnation in significant reductions in recent years. Analyzing the types of mishaps, incidents related to collisions, exposure to harmful substances, falls, insect stings, and falls from heights ranked the highest. Notably, although the industry-wide rate of fall-related incidents is around 30%, Watering Corporation managed to keep this figure at about 10%. However, given that such accidents can lead to severe injuries, achieving zero incidents from falls remains a crucial target. Fortunately, there has only been one reported case of heat stroke—a testament to the efforts made by management and workers towards understanding and implementing heat stroke prevention.

Despite thorough internal communication regarding incident analyses and preventive measures, a decline in risk sensitivity over time has led to frequent similar accidents. To fundamentally improve labor accident statistics, it is necessary for the workforce to regard safety management as a personal responsibility, fostering strong awareness and intent to prevent incidents.

Watering’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy

On the conference day, 84 company employees and 114 representatives from 101 partner companies attended the event. Awards were given to members for exemplary safety practices, and an external speaker conducted a presentation titled "How to Speak for Safety and Assurance—Eliminating Miscommunication to Achieve Zero Accidents.” The company's representatives expressed deep gratitude towards the cooperation members for their continuous participation in promoting safety and health standards.

Furthermore, a message regarding the importance of establishing a safe working culture amidst societal changes such as rising costs and labor reforms was conveyed. This culminated in an appeal to build relationships of trust among diverse colleagues and collaboratively ensure safety in the workplace.

Safety Activity Awards

During the conference, outstanding partner companies were acknowledged, which included:
  • - Masui Engineering Co., Ltd. for emergency restoration work at the Wakura Processing Area.
  • - Fukoku Tokai Co., Ltd. for work at the Hirokawa Pump Station in Nagoya.
  • - S.L. Co., Ltd. for improvement works at the Kainan Seaweed Environmental Health Center.

Declaration for Safety Goals

The declaration for 2025 outlines commitments to prevent labor accidents, promote health, and ensure responsibility in avoiding hazardous situations. The aim is to cultivate a safety-oriented mindset while fully engaging with all employees to achieve a zero-accident environment.

Watering Corporation emphasizes its commitment to maintaining safety and health as its top priority, aligning the group’s collective strengths toward a harmonious and secure workplace.
