Michael Baker International Appoints William Hoose as Western Regional Practice Lead for Environmental



In a significant move aimed at strengthening its environmental practice, Michael Baker International has promoted William Hoose, AICP, to Western Regional Practice Lead for Environmental. With this new role, Hoose will oversee the firm's activities across 25 offices in nine states, including Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah, and Washington.

Expanding Environmental Services


Hoose’s responsibilities will revolve around driving the growth of the Environmental practice. This includes engaging core clients, exploring new market trends, leading strategic initiatives, and collaborating with team partners. His areas of focus will involve cultivating client relationships, spearheading business development, and managing project strategies and quality control for multidisciplinary projects specifically tied to environmental and sustainability considerations.

Trudi Lim, the Western Regional Director at Michael Baker International, praised Hoose for his remarkable reputation in the field of Environmental Planning over the past two decades. “From tackling the aftermath of natural disasters to navigating intricate environmental regulations, Will’s extensive expertise and robust client connections will enable us to enhance our environmental services in the western United States,” she expressed.

Hoose's Journey with Michael Baker


Joining the firm in 2020, Hoose previously served as the Office Executive for the Los Angeles and Long Beach offices. In this capacity, he was instrumental in directing the growth strategy for the combined Los Angeles-Long Beach area. He played a pivotal role in establishing and expanding the firm's Planning practice in Los Angeles, and collaborated closely with several notable institutions, including the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, and California State University.

Before his tenure at Michael Baker, Hoose held several prominent positions. He was the Associate Vice President of Operations and the Impact Assessment and Permitting Department Manager at AECOM. There, he managed a sizable team of approximately 100 staff members across seven offices, delivering a wide array of services ranging from environmental planning under CEQA/NEPA regulations to noise and air quality assessments.

Earlier in his career, Hoose worked as the Program Manager at Golder Associates and also held senior project management roles at PBSJ/Atkins and URS Corporation. He even established his own planning and consulting firm, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to the planning profession.

Educational Background and Certifications


Hoose holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban and Regional Planning from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He is certified by the American Planning Association (APA) and has actively participated as a former member of the APA California Chapter Executive Committee and Board.
