ADF Design Award 2026: Celebrating Architectural Excellence
The Aoyama Design Forum (ADF) has unveiled the results of the prestigious ADF Design Award 2026, aimed at recognizing architectural brilliance from around the globe. This award, featuring a total prize pool of $20,000, aims to foster innovation in the design and architecture sector.
Outstanding Winner
The standout accolade, the Grand Prize, was awarded to
Keisuke Koike from
Thirdparty/K2YT for his impressive project, the
Miyakonojo Komizo Eye Clinic. This building reimagines waiting time, transforming it from mere screen time into a meaningful experience. It escapes the conventional single large volume structure, opting instead for a segmented roof design that varies in height, resulting in an open park-like space coexisting with intimate settings. The carefully crafted spaces allow natural light to illuminate the interiors through a garden integrated within the structure, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor environments. Patients wandering in the corridors find comfort, with seating areas both inside and out, granting them the freedom to enjoy their visit in tranquil privacy.
Excellence in Hospitality
The award for excellence was granted to two exceptional designers.
Jeravej Hongsakul from
IDIN Architects was recognized for his project
Harudot. This independent café embodies the concept of ‘growth’ and ‘new beginnings’ by integrating nature and architecture. The collaboration with renowned Thai café brand
Nana Coffee Roasters brings this vision to life. The design features a simplistic gabled roof, deliberately spaced to allow trees to grow inside it, symbolizing the seed of creation planted at its core. The exterior showcases a serene, understated aesthetic with charred timber, while the interior reveals flowing curves and warm wood tones, contrasting beautifully to create a rich spatial experience.
Also receiving an excellence award is
Jannis Renner from
ATELIER BRÜCKNER for the
Uzbekistan Pavilion at the upcoming 2025 Osaka-Kansai World Expo. Titled
Garden of Knowledge: A Laboratory for a Future Society, this pavilion draws inspiration from historical caravanserais, reinterpreting them into modern spaces for interaction and learning. It features a sculptural wooden rooftop garden reminiscent of the
Juma Mosque in Khiva. Internally, the pavilion will focus on themes of sustainability, innovation, and education, highlighted by a 360-degree multimedia experience that will captivate visitors.
Selection Criteria and Awards
The evaluation criteria for the ADF Design Award focus on beauty, innovation, benefits to users and the environment, and cultural relevance. Winners not only receive monetary awards but also opportunities for exhibitions throughout significant events like the
Milan Salone, which starts on April 21, 2026. The Grand Prize winner is entitled to a substantial $30,000, while the excellence awardees receive $5,000 each. Additionally, ADF provides financial support for setup costs and opportunities for showcasing their designs in various platforms, including the virtual museum
COCO WARP and other ADF initiatives.
Conclusion
With the ADF Design Award 2026, the future of architecture shines brightly, spotlighting projects that redefine spaces and create unique experiences.
