Major General Kimberly M. Colloton to Speak at the Building Innovation Conference 2026

The National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) has officially announced that Major General (Retired) Kimberly M. Colloton and Blake Shiver, Vice President and General Manager of Public Sector at Procore Technologies, will headline a notable fireside chat at the upcoming 14th annual Building Innovation Conference. This pivotal event is scheduled for May 19–20, 2026, at The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner. The conference aims to unite key players from various sectors including government, the AECO (Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Owner) industry, academic institutions, and community leaders to forge paths toward innovation and resilience in America's built environment.

The central theme of this year's conference revolves around improving lives and supporting communities throughout the U.S. by better aligning systems within the built environment. Emphasis will be placed on integrating progressive practices and fostering innovation within construction and design methodologies. Attendees can expect to engage in informative sessions led by experts, discussing critical topics like infrastructure resilience, digital delivery methods, industrial construction techniques, housing policies, and advancements in modular construction and adaptive design.

Major General Kimberly M. Colloton, a veteran with over 30 years of dedicated service in the U.S. Army, most recently held the position of Deputy Chief of Engineers and Deputy Commanding General for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in Washington, D.C. In this role, she oversaw a vast global portfolio valued at $90 billion and led a workforce comprising 38,000 military and civilian professionals. Her strategic leadership was indispensable in advancing resource management, engineering practices, construction strategies, and network modernization, ensuring that vital services were delivered efficiently and effectively.

Blake Shiver brings a wealth of experience to the table, leading Procore's initiatives to revolutionize how government agencies and infrastructure owners operate at federal, state, and local levels. With an extensive background at Procore, coupled with a decade of experience at Red Hat, he has been instrumental in driving digital transformations, enhancing transparency in capital programs, and modernizing project delivery for public sector entities.

The fireside chat at Building Innovation 2026 promises to offer invaluable insights as Major General (Retired) Colloton and Blake Shiver share their experiences and perspectives on the innovative forces reshaping America's infrastructure and architectural practices. Attendees will gain a unique understanding of the intersection between national defense, significant infrastructure projects, construction technologies, and the modernization of the public sector.

In her career, Major General Colloton has consistently advocated for the significance of teamwork and interdisciplinary expertise in achieving success, aligning closely with the conference's goal of strengthening national infrastructure through collaboration across different sectors.

NIBS President and CEO, George Guszcza, expressed enthusiasm for hosting Major General Colloton and Blake Shiver at the upcoming conference, emphasizing the substantial impact of their leadership and insight on the evolving engineering landscape in America. He stated, "Our nation has benefited and will continue to be impacted by their leadership.
