Exploring the Growing Trend of Cosmetic Procedures Among Young Adults
In a recent survey conducted by Seishin Aesthetic Clinic, it has been revealed that 39.5% of young adults in their twenties are considering or have experienced cosmetic procedures during summer vacation periods. This finding sheds light on the increasing acceptance and interest in aesthetic treatments, particularly among this age group. The survey captured the views of 400 participants living in the Tokyo metropolitan area, consisting of an equal number of men and women.
Survey Highlights
1. Significant Interest in Cosmetic Procedures
The survey highlighted that approximately 21.6% of respondents had either considered or undergone a mini cosmetic procedure, which may include treatments like double eyelid surgery, injections, and skin rejuvenation methods. A breakdown shows that 10.3% had already undergone such procedures, while 11.3% had considered trying.
The Growing Acceptance of Aesthetic Treatments
More recent findings from a report published by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in 2024 indicated that a significant number of females (10-20 years old) and males in their twenties have no reservations or discomfort regarding undergoing beauty treatments. Our current survey reinforces the increasing demand for cosmetic procedures among younger demographics.
2. Summer as the Optimal Time for Procedures
Among those who have considered or undergone these cosmetic treatments, nearly 39.5% mentioned 'summer vacation' as the preferred time, followed by the year-end and New Year period at 29.1%. The choice of summer is likely attributed to the availability of ample recovery time after procedures, making it easier to deal with any downtime such as swelling.
3. Gender Differences in Motivations
When asked about the motivations behind their decisions, over half of the respondents, regardless of gender, stated that they wanted to feel more confident in themselves. However, a stark contrast emerged when it came to the motivations related to romance and attraction. Specifically, 30.3% of men indicated that they sought cosmetic enhancement for romantic pursuits, which is more than double the 15.1% of women who expressed the same.
4. Differing Attitudes Towards Cosmetic Procedures
The survey also examined general attitudes towards cosmetic procedures. Among the women interviewed, the most common sentiment (36.5%) was a flexible stance, stating that opinions were subjective and dependent on the individual. In contrast, 50.5% of men expressed feelings of resistance towards cosmetic surgery, indicating a notable difference in perspectives between genders.
