Student Interns from NIJIN Make History at SIF2026 with Unique Project

Breaking New Ground at SIF2026

In a remarkable achievement, a group of dedicated student interns from the innovative educational startup, NIJIN, has successfully advanced to exhibit at the Startup Internship Festival 2026 (SIF2026). This event, scheduled for August 2, 2026, at Tokyo Innovation Base, will provide these driven individuals a platform to present their vision for transforming education. The interns are united by a deep-seated desire to make a meaningful impact on global education systems, particularly focusing on supporting children affected by school absenteeism or alternative learning pathways.

Context of the Exhibit

The educational landscape is undergoing significant transformations. The number of students experiencing school refusal has been on a relentless rise, with annual reports showing a steady increase in students enrolled in correspondence high schools. However, due to a narrow definition that requires at least thirty days of absence before being classified as school-refusing, many children suffering countless difficulties remain unreported. There’s an urgent demand for diverse learning options, yet societal perceptions still label those who choose alternative education paths as “abnormal.”

In response to these pressing challenges, NIJIN has launched the NIJIN Academy, an alternative school structure aimed at turning school refusal into hope. As it enters its third year in September 2026, the academy alum count has surpassed 900 students. Alongside this, they have established NIJIN's Correspondence Support School, which aims to turn correspondence challenges into educational successes, and the Terasu Teaching Platform, where over 1,000 educators convene to enhance teaching quality. The initiative also includes an after-school project school focusing on connecting students with societal learning opportunities beyond conventional schooling.

At the heart of this initiative are three interns who have taken personal experiences of school refusal, alternative education, and feelings of alienation and transformed them into a powerful motivation to change the educational landscape.

The Journey from Entry to Presentation

The three interns who entered the Start-Up Internship Festival 2026 carry stories of past struggles, including experiences with school refusal and the challenges of alternative education. Rather than placing blame, they’ve decided to collaborate and push for changes in educational systems. They aim to create a network of like-minded individuals who share a passion for reshaping education.

The responsibilities for the SIF2026 exhibit have been entirely managed by these dedicated student interns. They have handled everything from:
  • - Entry preparations
  • - Job postings and application materials
  • - Creating project proposals and budgets
  • - Distributing press releases
  • - Preparing pitch materials and executing presentations
  • - Setting up booth displays
  • - Producing posters, brochures, logos, and promotional items

This initiative is not just a display of their scholarly prowess—it's a declaration that education must evolve and adapt. The project embodies the spirit of NIJIN’s internships, representing a broader commitment to giving students with lived experiences the chance to thrive in educational reform.

Looking Forward to SIF2026

As SIF2026 approaches, the internship team eagerly anticipates engaging with visitors at their booth. They are looking for:
  • - Individuals passionate about genuinely transforming education.
  • - Those ready to embrace a revolutionary experience beyond traditional educational boundaries.
  • - Individuals who have faced similar challenges and desire to support others in overcoming obstacles.

They welcome anyone interested in learning more about NIJIN's mission and the interns’ journeys. Attendees will get an authentic insight into the motivations that drive these students as they advocate for meaningful changes in education.
