Globeleq Appoints Edouard Wenseleers as Chief Development Officer

Globeleq, a major independent power provider in Africa, has announced that Edouard Wenseleers will take on the role of Chief Development Officer (CDO), effective from August 10, 2026. This strategic appointment is expected to bolster the company’s business development initiatives across the continent, positioning it for further growth in the dynamic energy sector.

About Edouard Wenseleers

With over 15 years of experience in the African power industry, Wenseleers comes to his new role with a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record. Since joining Globeleq in 2018, he has significantly contributed to the company’s development portfolio, most recently serving as the Managing Director of Business Development and Head of East Africa. His leadership has been pivotal in executing various development, acquisition, and investment strategies that have solidified Globeleq’s stature as a key player in Africa's energy transition.

Wenseleers has been instrumental in spearheading important projects such as the financial closure and execution of the 52 MWp Malindi Solar project and the 35 MW Menengai geothermal project in Kenya. Furthermore, he has overseen strategic acquisitions and growth strategies targeting East Africa and Zambia, including the notable acquisition of a 51% stake in Lunsemfwa Hydro Power Company from Norfund.

Transition of Leadership

Wenseleers succeeds John Smelcer, who has opted to leave the company, prioritizing family commitments after a successful tenure leading development activities at Globeleq.
