Magellan Health and Calm Health Join Forces to Enhance Mental Health Access for Members

Magellan Health Partners with Calm Health for Enhanced Member Support

Magellan Health, Inc. has recently announced a strategic partnership with Calm Health, a leading evidence-based mental health application. This collaboration aims to provide Magellan members with more effective access to mental health resources and qualified providers, a much-needed solution amidst the growing need for mental health support in today’s society.

Dr. Caroline Carney, the president of behavioral health and chief medical officer of Magellan Health, emphasizes the shared commitment between the two organizations to deliver timely and accurate support to individuals facing mental health challenges. “We are excited to introduce the Calm Health app to our members, enhancing access and engagement through this innovative digital solution,” Dr. Carney stated.

The main goal of this partnership is to empower Magellan employer clients with tools that address wellbeing and productivity in the workplace. Research shows that around 70% of individuals experiencing mental health issues are unaware of where to seek help. By providing a streamlined approach to mental health resources, Magellan Health seeks to simplify this often daunting process.

Eligible members will have access to the Calm Health app, which facilitates a structured experience for users. Upon entering the app, individuals can complete a brief in-app mental health screening that tailors recommendations based on their responses. For members indicating symptoms of mild anxiety or depression, the platform suggests various self-guided digital programs provided by Calm Health as well as Magellan’s clinically validated Digital Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (DCBT) solutions.

For those reflecting moderate to severe symptoms, the Calm Health app directs users to appropriate clinical support services offered by Magellan Health. This tiered approach ensures that members receive the appropriate level of care based on their unique needs.

David Ko, the CEO of Calm, echoed the importance of this collaboration, stating, “Working alongside innovative partners like Magellan Health allows us to extend comprehensive mental health support to individuals who need it. By effectively addressing the emotional and psychological aspects of various health conditions, we aim to reduce overall healthcare costs while promoting healthier work environments throughout the United States.”

The union of Magellan Health and Calm Health is set to expand further as both organizations are committed to broadening access to mental health resources in the future. A lingering challenge for many individuals seeking help is the complexity and confusion around accessing mental health services—a barrier that this partnership is striving to break down.
