New Home Care Station for Medically Dependent Children Opens in Japan

New Home Nursing Care for Medically Dependent Children

On May 12, 2025, a new chapter in pediatric nursing opens with the launch of 'SoiNurse Homestay Nursing Station Gunma Ship' in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture, Japan. This facility aims to provide essential support to children with medical needs and their families, filling a gap in healthcare services outside of Tokyo. The debut coincides with Nursing Day, a celebration honoring Florence Nightingale's birthday, symbolizing a commitment to care and compassion in nursing.

Vision and Mission

SoiNurse operates under the vision of creating a society where all children, families, and nurses thrive together. This pediatric-focused care service is staffed by nurses with specialized training, dedicated to addressing the unique needs of medically dependent children. Since its inception, the company has focused on home nursing, respite care, and academic support, with a current registered nurse count nearing 3,000 and approximately 100 nurses on duty each month.

Background and Purpose of Establishing Gunma Ship

As national initiatives for supporting medically dependent children gain momentum, Gunma Prefecture is also undertaking measures to enhance care systems, including the establishment of Medical Care Child Support Centers. The number of at-home children requiring medical care has risen from 298 in 2017 to 403 in 2022, demonstrating a growing need for support beyond what government programs can provide.

Recognizing this increasing demand, Medi Blanca has decided to leverage its expertise as a private entity while collaborating with governmental efforts. Gunma Ship aims to provide comprehensive support not only to families of medically dependent children but also to empower nursing professionals by offering more flexible work arrangements. This initiative will contribute to the socio-economic vitality of the entire region.

Features of the SoiNurse Services

Evening Care Availability

One standout feature of SoiNurse is its extended hours of service. Nurses will be available to provide care from 5 PM to 8 PM, a crucial time for families who may benefit from support during busy evenings. This availability helps alleviate the burdens on working parents and allows for better family work-life balance.

Quality Care through Person-Centered Nursing

The selection process for nurses emphasizes compatibility with children, ensuring that they provide the highest quality of care. SoiNurse aims to combine insurance-covered visits with private services, allowing for extended hours and more frequent visits.

Transparent Fee Structure

Services at SoiNurse include home nursing covered by healthcare insurance, with private services starting from ¥4,070 (tax included) per hour, subject to a minimum of two hours for private service.

Advancing Nursing Employment

To address the staffing needs and to enable various working styles, SoiNurse's nurses will enjoy the flexibility of part-time roles that allow shifts to start from just one hour. This system matches nurses to clients based on their skills and experiences, ensuring both satisfying employment and quality service delivery.

Re-engaging Potential Nurses

Medi Blanca is keen to support those who may have taken breaks from their nursing careers due to maternity leave or desire to work part-time. The organization offers training and on-the-job learning opportunities to help them reintegrate and grow professionally in their nursing careers.
