BrightNight's Groundbreaking Moment in Yuma County
On February 11, 2026, BrightNight, a trailblazing power and digital infrastructure firm, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the
Pioneer Clean Energy Center in Yuma County, Arizona. This event marks a significant step forward for an initiative poised to supply clean, reliable energy to Arizona Public Service customers while enhancing grid stability in one of the state's most energy-challenged areas.
The
Pioneer Clean Energy Center is set to be a cutting-edge facility featuring a
300-megawatt solar power plant and an equivalent battery energy storage capacity of
1,200 megawatt-hours. This innovative project is designed to function as a baseload renewable power provider, generating over
900,000 megawatt-hours of clean electricity annually. Such output is expected to efficiently cater to Arizona's increasing energy demands.
"The Pioneer Clean Energy Center reflects our commitment at BrightNight to develop infrastructure that supports both reliability and economic growth, thereby ensuring long-term resilience in our energy systems," stated
Martin Hermann, CEO of BrightNight. This project illustrates the effective integration of advanced clean energy solutions and storage systems, ultimately benefiting local communities.
To link the power generated at the facility to the grid, BrightNight will construct a nearly
nine-mile,
230-kilovolt generation-tie transmission line that will connect to existing infrastructure. This connection, alongside the facility itself, represents a critical investment into Arizona's energy landscape and community infrastructure.
Once up and running, the
Pioneer Clean Energy Center is anticipated to produce enough electricity to power approximately
77,299 homes and businesses each year. The environmental impact is equally substantial, with an expected reduction of
641,893 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, which corresponds to more than
709 million pounds of coal that will not be burned. Moreover, this facility will conserve over
260 million gallons of water each year, a remarkable saving compared to traditional power generation methods.
Construction of this center commenced in
October 2025, and commercial operations are projected to kick off in
April 2027. During the construction phase, between
250 to 300 jobs are likely to be created, alongside additional long-term employment opportunities that will arise once the center becomes operational.
The
Pioneer Clean Energy Center is expected to contribute roughly
$83.3 million in local and state property tax revenues throughout its operation. This includes more than
$42 million designated for the Arizona State Land Department K-12 Educational Trust, reinforcing public education funding across the state.
The groundbreaking ceremony gathered local officials, community leaders, project partners, and members of BrightNight's team, all present to celebrate the commencement of construction and to underscore the project's future benefits for the economy, energy reliability, and local communities.
