RTX's Raytheon Secures $646 Million Contract for SPY-6 Radars for U.S. Navy

RTX's Raytheon Secures $646 Million Contract for SPY-6 Radars

On June 9, 2025, Raytheon, a prominent business entity under RTX (NYSE: RTX), announced the awarding of a significant contract valued at $646 million, aimed at the continued production of its highly advanced AN/SPY-6(V) radar systems for the United States Navy. This contract represents the fourth option exercised from the original hardware production and sustainment agreement established in March 2022, which could total up to $3 billion over five years.

The new contract means four additional SPY-6 radars will be manufactured, bringing the total number of procured radars under this agreement to 42. This increase is crucial for the U.S. Navy, which relies on these state-of-the-art systems to enhance its maritime surveillance and defensive operations.

Barbara Borgonovi, President of Naval Power at Raytheon, highlighted the radar system's capabilities. "SPY-6 enables the U.S. Navy to see further than they have ever seen before, providing sailors with more time to respond to detected threats," she noted. This sentiment underscores the importance of having robust radar systems capable of early threat detection in today’s security landscape.

The production of SPY-6 radars takes place at Raytheon's advanced Radar Development Facility located in Andover, Massachusetts. This facility, encompassing 30,000 square feet, is specifically designed to support the manufacture of various radar systems for both U.S. forces and allied nations. It is recognized as one of the most technologically sophisticated production sites globally, boasting highly automated systems that allow for efficient radar testing and integration, operational 24/7.

The contract's execution will mainly occur in Andover, with operations expected to continue through to 2028. Raytheon's long history of innovation in defense solutions will aid in delivering these critical systems, sustaining the military's technological edge over adversaries.
