Kohler's Flamingo Estate Spa: A Natural Wellness Retreat at Milan Design Week 2026

Kohler's Flamingo Estate: A New Era of Wellness in Milan

Kohler, a name synonymous with bold design and innovation, is making waves at the Milan Design Week 2026 with its latest endeavor—the Flamingo Estate Spa. This unique multisensory installation has been crafted in partnership with Richard Christiansen, the visionary founder of Flamingo Estate. Together, they aim to immerse visitors in a profound experience that harmonizes architecture, nature, and tranquility, encouraging moments of contemplation and renewal.

An Invitation to Serenity

Set in the picturesque courtyard of the Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea during the renowned Fuorisalone event, the exhibition showcases remarkable brutalist baths inspired by the sprawling Californian landscape of the Flamingo Estate. Central to the installation is Kohler's new freestanding enamel-coated cast iron tub, adorned with a genuine metal shell in striking copper. This exhibit reflects natural rust tones and earthy textures, seemingly emerging from its surroundings rather than imposing itself upon the viewer.

The design philosophy is rooted in the organic connections between human creations and nature. The exhibit’s relaxed atmosphere is not only visually striking but also encourages deep mindfulness, as the serene setting captures the beauty of sunlight filtered through expansive stained glass windows. The ambiance is further enhanced with 200 candles representing Flamingo Estate, illuminating the space and deepening the tranquility.

The Iconic Reverie Tub

At the heart of this installation is the exquisite Kohler Reverie tub, featuring a copper shell that beautifully showcases architectural precision alongside the elemental richness of historical materials. This centerpiece is not only a testament to Kohler's 153 years of craftsmanship but also embodies a bold chapter in material innovation. By blending traditional shaping and welding techniques with contemporary design, Kohler continues to redefine the bathing experience.

Alongside the tub are four distinctive pollinator baths—each uniquely crafted in Kohler's historic Wisconsin foundry. These artistically designed vessels expand on the narrative of reciprocity between human craftsmanship and the natural ecosystem, providing shelters for birds, bees, and other pollinators. The pollinator baths reflect a shared commitment from both Kohler and Flamingo Estate towards sustainable living, flourishing biodiversity, and creating a harmonious relationship with nature.

A Celebration of Craft and Culture

The Flamingo Estate Spa installation enhances the visitors' experiential journey, showcasing a deep-rooted passion for craftsmanship and culture. It embodies a lifestyle that finds sustainability in simplicity and a lasting sense of well-being through a connection with nature.

The Flamingo Estate by Kohler will be unveiled during the FuoriSalone at Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea, located at Via Palestro 14, 20121 Milano, Italy. The exhibition is open to the public from Tuesday, April 21 to Sunday, April 26, with hours varying by day. The installation invites visitors to discover the serene beauty of the Flamingo Estate while contemplating the importance of craftsmanship in our everyday lives.

In an era filled with challenges, the Flamingo Estate Spa stands as a beacon of hope, creativity, and reverence for nature. As we delve deeper into the realm of wellness and design, Kohler and Flamingo Estate invite all to join in this rich tapestry of experiences where wellness meets artistry and innovation.
