World Phygital Community Announces Global Qualifying Tournaments for 2025/2026 Season
In a significant move for sport enthusiasts, the World Phygital Community (WPC) has officially announced its tournament calendar for the 2025/2026 season. This exciting initiative is aimed at athletes and clubs vying for a spot at the
Games of the Future scheduled to take place in Kazakhstan in 2026. The anticipated season will run from
August 1 to December 15, 2025, and will include a series of tournaments organized by WPC members around the globe, providing an exceptional platform for athletes to showcase their skills in phygital sports.
Phygital sports, which blend physical and digital disciplines, are set to see unprecedented participation levels this year. The competitions will follow a structured format, starting with regional tournaments known as
Phygital Origins, which will be hosted in participating countries, followed by national tournaments termed
Phygital Rivals. This structure ensures widespread engagement, allowing many aspiring athletes the opportunity to compete at various levels and possibly advance to international recognition.
Dan Merkley, the Chair of WPC, expressed his excitement about the upcoming season, declaring, “This new season will be the biggest ever. With 96 members from 92 countries, it’s a chance for anyone who wants to be part of this rapidly growing trend. Phygital sports are for everyone, and we are eager to see which phygital superstars will emerge this season.”
The tournaments will encompass a range of core disciplines including
Phygital Football,
Phygital Basketball,
Phygital Shooter, and
Phygital Dancing. Each of these disciplines will consist of two main phases: a digital round where athletes compete in a video game version of the sport, followed by a physical round that takes place in a traditional sports setting. Phygital Dancing tournaments will utilize popular dance video games, creating a unique blend of entertainment and competition.
At the end of this tournament season in December, a comprehensive ranking will be established. The top two clubs and athletes in each discipline will secure direct qualification for the
Games of the Future 2026, while those ranking from third to twenty-sixth will enter the
Phygital Contenders tournament, competing for their chance to participate in the prestigious global event.
Prior to the commencement of the season, all WPC members are invited to apply for hosting
Phygital Origins and
Phygital Rivals tournaments from
May 1 to July 31, 2025. This initiative represents a strategic effort to promote phygital sports as an inclusive and innovative platform for global participation.
