Exciting Hands-On Science Experiences at Okayama University Research Park Event

Science Comes Alive at Okayama University

On July 24, 2026, Okayama University proudly participated in the Okayama Research Park event titled "Exciting Hands-On Science Experiences". Organized by its Comprehensive Technology Department, the event aimed to engage children in the wonders of science through interactive activities.

One of the main attractions was the popular "Kaleidoscope Making with PET Bottles" workshop. Here, 61 children eagerly cut and assembled their own kaleidoscopes, choosing colorful beads, clips, and marbles to fill them. Equipped with specially designed safe tools, the children learned the process of craftsmanship while ensuring their safety.

Under the supervision of staff from the university's technology department, participants were guided on how to cut the PET bottles and assemble the mirror components. The excitement was palpable as they decorated the sides of their kaleidoscopes with drawings and stickers, turning their creations into unique art pieces.

The joy of discovery was evident as the children peered into their kaleidoscopes, delighting in the vibrant patterns formed. Shouts of “Wow! Look!” echoed as they shared their creations with their parents, siblings, and staff, marking a wonderful summer moment.

Mr. Masahito Sato, the head of the Comprehensive Technology Department and Vice President, expressed gratitude towards those who supported the event. He emphasized the importance of nurturing future generations and reinforcing their connection with science. “Thanks to everyone involved, we were able to offer children a thrilling and exciting experience. As a research university at the core of the community, we are committed to fostering talent and advancing scientific engagement,” he stated.

The Comprehensive Technology Department, which collaborates closely with the Faculty of Engineering at Okayama University, has been proactive in organizing various science promotion activities beyond the campus. Their mission focuses on making science engaging and accessible to young learners, ensuring they develop an early affinity for scientific exploration.

This commitment not only helps inspire the next generation but also contributes to building a culture of innovation within the local and scientific community. As Okayama University continues to grow as a unique and influential research institution, events like these pave the way for significant breakthroughs while nurturing a love for science among children.

Stay tuned for more exciting initiatives from Okayama University’s Comprehensive Technology Department as they strive to make science fun and engaging for all. Their ongoing projects and hands-on experiences highlight the university’s dedication to education and community engagement, making science a part of everyday life.
