Tampa General Hospital's ASCs Celebrate Record Recognition in Newsweek Rankings

Tampa General Hospital (TGH) has once again made headlines by achieving remarkable recognition from Newsweek and Statista in their annual ranking of America's Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs). This year marks the fourth consecutive year that TGH's Outpatient Center and the TGH Surgery Center at Morsani have earned top accolades. Specifically, the TGH Outpatient Center, previously known as TGH Brandon Healthplex, has been ranked as the fifth-best ASC in Florida, while the TGH Surgery Center at Morsani claimed the sixth position in the state. Notably, these centers also stood out as the highest-rated ASCs within the Tampa Bay region.

John Couris, the president and CEO of Tampa General Hospital, expressed his pride in the achievement, stating, "As our organization continues to expand its footprint and impact statewide, we have the privilege of serving more patients and providing more access to high-quality care, backed by the power of academic medicine." This recognition is a testament to the dedication of the medical team at TGH, committed to delivering safe and innovative care to patients at every encounter.

The latest ranking by Newsweek emphasizes the critical role ASCs play in the healthcare landscape, offering patients the option of receiving high-quality, safe medical care in a more convenient setting than traditional hospitals. Procedures conducted at these surgery centers typically do not require overnight stays, allowing patients to recover comfortably at home after their operations. This convenience is further highlighted by TGH's Outpatient Center, which is designed to serve both adults and children with an extensive range of medical services, including a 24/7 emergency center, outpatient rehabilitation, pharmacy, primary care, specialty services, and imaging. The Morsani location, on the other hand, caters to both adult and pediatric patients with its cutting-edge facilities, featuring four integrated operating rooms, five endoscopy suites, and 33 beds for comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative care.

Adam Smith, the executive vice president and chief ambulatory care officer at TGH, echoed the sentiments of excellence, stating, "We are honored to once again be recognized by Newsweek for the exceptional care our team delivers at our ambulatory surgery centers in Brandon and Tampa. This recognition underscores our commitment to investing in world-class outpatient care because we understand that our patients value the convenience, cost efficiency, and accessibility these facilities offer in the communities we serve."

In a notable expansion of their ranking criteria, Newsweek and Statista analyzed over 5,000 ASCs nationwide this year, ultimately spotlighting the top 650 based on quality of care, patient experience, performance data, and peer recommendations. This year’s achievement adds to TGH's growing list of accolades, which include listings in various prestigious rankings such as Newsweek's World's Best Smart Hospitals 2025, America's Best Cancer Hospitals 2024, and Becker's Hospital Review's Great Hospitals in America 2024.

Tampa General Hospital is not only one of the largest hospitals in the nation, but it also functions as the region's sole provider of Level I trauma and comprehensive burn care. With a hospital capacity of 981 beds, it has earned recognition as the top-ranked hospital in the Tampa Bay area according to U.S. News & World Report for 2024-2025. TGH is dedicated to providing quality care regardless of patients' financial situations, exemplified by its efforts in community support and health education.

In fiscal year 2022, TGH provided approximately $240.3 million in community benefits, catering to underinsured patients and supporting local health organizations. As a leader in organ transplantation and medical education, TGH is not only focusing on individual patient care but also working toward enhancing public health across the region. Those in the Tampa Bay area can further access care through the multi-faceted TGH network, which includes urgent care services, multiple outpatient facilities, and telehealth options, ensuring convenience and accessibility in all aspects of health care delivery.

Overall, the accolades garnered by Tampa General Hospital illuminate their unwavering commitment to patient care and continuous improvement, making them a cornerstone of the healthcare community in Florida.
