Hyundai and Children's of Alabama Enhance Child Safety with Car Seat Check Initiative in Birmingham

Strengthening Child Safety in Birmingham

In a significant stride towards ensuring child safety, Hyundai Motor America has partnered with Children's of Alabama to organize a community-focused car seat check event. This initiative took place at The Summit in Birmingham, aiming to raise awareness about child passenger safety and educate families on the proper use of car seats. The initiative is part of Hyundai's ongoing corporate responsibility program, Hyundai Hope.

A Proven Commitment

Since the start of this partnership, over 1,179 families have benefited from the initiative, with more than 190 car seats successfully replaced. These numbers reflect a meaningful commitment to making children's journeys safer on the road. Cole Stutz, Chief Safety Officer at Hyundai Motor North America, underscored the importance of this initiative, stating, "The safety of our youngest passengers is paramount and extends far beyond the vehicles we design."

The Importance of Proper Car Seat Use

Research by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reveals that a significant number of car seats - nearly half - are either improperly installed or misused by parents and guardians. The data further indicates that correct installation of car seats can drastically reduce the risk of fatal injuries; by up to 71% for infants and 54% for children aged 1 to 4 years.

At the Birmingham event, certified child passenger safety technicians conducted free inspections, assessing each seat for recalls, expiration dates, and ensuring they fit each child correctly. Families who required assistance were provided with replacement seats to enhance their children’s safety on the road.

Community Engagement and Empowerment

Ashley Bridgmon, Manager of the Health Education and Safety Center at Children's of Alabama, expressed gratitude towards Hyundai for their continued support. "Through their support, we are able to further promote child passenger safety and empower families with the knowledge they need to keep children safe on the roads," Bridgmon stated.

This partnership not only highlights the proactive stance Hyundai is taking towards community engagement but also reflects a shared vision between them and Children's of Alabama for creating healthier, safer communities.

Hyundai Hope Initiative

Hyundai Hope is more than just a program; it embodies a commitment to the principle of 'Progress for Humanity'. This initiative aims to improve the well-being of society by supporting various nonprofit organizations focused on health and safety.
