Tanagokoro Exhibition: A Celebration of Glass Art
From July 3 to 13, 2023, Wako in Ginza presents the "Tanagokoro de Mederu" (Experiencing the Touch of Tanagokoro) group exhibition. Held at the Seiko House Hall, this event showcases the unique glass art styles of four exceptional artists: Aya Akiba, Yuka Kawakita, Yoko Motoki, and Ha Yamazaki. The exhibition aims to highlight the subtle joys of daily life through intricate and expressive glassworks.
The Artists and Their Inspirations
Aya Akiba
Born in Kanagawa in 1978, Aya Akiba captures the simple pleasures of life, much like collecting treasures, through her use of core glass and glassblowing techniques. Her work embodies an innocent charm, inviting viewers to find happiness in the little things.
Yuka Kawakita
Yuka Kawakita, born in 1972 in Mie Prefecture, brings her passion for nature into her glass creations. Focused on the core glass technique, she explores the interplay of etched glass and light, crafting pieces that resonate with the beauty of nearby plants and flowers, resulting in a soothing visual experience.
Yoko Motoki
Yoko Motoki, originally from Tokyo and born in 1972, is known for her mesmerizing sandblasted designs on blown glass. After etching patterns into the glass, she layers enamel colors to create vivid and dynamic pieces. Her artworks encapsulate the fleeting moments of life and nature, inviting onlookers to appreciate the enchantment of glass.
Ha Yamazaki
Ha Yamazaki, born in 1978 in Yamanashi, uses transparent glass to express emotional moments through colorful enamel. Her works embody a deep connection to the "life" of flora and fauna, each piece nuanced with a sense of tranquility and contemplation.
