Toray and T2 Begin Demonstration of Autonomous Freight Transport for Petrochemical Products
Toray and T2: Pioneering Autonomous Freight Transport
In a significant move towards sustainable logistics, Toray Industries, Inc. and T2 have announced a groundbreaking demonstration project aimed at utilizing autonomous trucks for the transportation of petrochemical products. Starting from September 16, 2025, the two companies will embark on this venture along specific sections of the Kanto-Kansai Expressway.
Addressing Driver Shortages
With the shortage of truck drivers becoming an increasingly critical issue, this initiative will introduce T2’s self-driving trucks to transport Toray’s products. The operational stretch for this project will cover approximately 440 kilometers, running from Ayase Smart Interchange in Kanagawa to Ibaraki Chitei-ji in Osaka on the Tomei Expressway and the Shin-Meishin Expressway. The demonstration is slated to occur four times between September 2025 and April 2026, allowing for comprehensive evaluation.
