Hakujyu Partners with Montedio Yamagata Academy to Promote Nutritional Education

In an inspiring collaboration aimed at fostering healthy athletes, Hakujyu Co., Ltd., a company dedicated to improving human happiness through health initiatives, has signed on as the official 'Nutritional Education Partner' for Montedio Yamagata Academy, the youth training division of the J2 League team, Montedio Yamagata. This partnership marks a significant step toward enhancing the nutritional knowledge and physical development of young athletes in the academy.

Importance of Nutritional Education for Young Athletes

Hakujyu, located in Shibuya, Tokyo, has long supported athletes from junior levels to professionals. They understand the tough reality faced by many young athletes who often regret not having been informed about proper nutrition and dietary practices earlier in their careers. The goal of Hakujyu is clear: to deliver essential nutritional information and knowledge about body development during the critical junior stage before athletes transition to professional levels.

Over the years, Hakujyu has repeatedly encountered athletes lamenting, "I wish I had understood the importance of nutrition sooner." This insight has driven them to act. They intend to maximize potential during a period when physical growth is paramount, ensuring that young talents receive the right guidance at the right time.

Addressing the Unique Challenges in Local Areas

Through dialogues with the Montedio Yamagata Academy, it was revealed that regional junior athletes face unique challenges, particularly concerning nutrition and sleep. Long travel times after training are common, leading to late dinners and inadequate sleep, ultimately impacting athletes' growth and performance metrics. For example, practices can end late, sometimes leaving players to return home as late as 10 PM, which hinders their recovery and nourishment.

Key Issues Identified:

1. Nutritional and Sleep Deficits: The nocturnal pattern of training and commuting often leads to fatigue, which makes it difficult for young athletes to consume adequate nourishment and rest, affecting their growth trajectories dramatically.
2. Sustainability of Nutritional Awareness: Previous one-off nutrition seminars have failed to create lasting behavior changes, as initial motivation wanes after a few months. Athletes often struggle with temptations and making healthy choices as they age.

Launch of Comprehensive Nutritional Seminars

In response, Hakujyu initiated a consistent support program to begin in June, coinciding with Japan's National Nutrition Month. They have structured ongoing nutritional seminars tailored by age groups: U-12 (Junior), U-15 (Junior Youth), and U-18 (Youth). The first seminar took place on June 21 with almost 100 participants, including coaches, players, and parents.

At the seminar, nutritionist Ayaka Sato educated attendees on the essential caloric requirements to enhance their performance specifically geared towards soccer. Tips were provided on how players in their growth years should focus on maximizing their physical capabilities by incorporating adequate nutrition into their diets.

The Juniors were advised to recognize their critical growth phases, while older athletes in the U-18 category focused on muscle development to improve competitive performances. The session emphasized that many were not meeting their caloric needs, prompting discussions around the importance of supplementary snacks before practices.

This initiative doesn't conclude with a single seminar. The plan is to conduct four seasonal workshops a year, allowing continuous interaction and education between the academy and Hakujyu, which aims to foster a supportive environment for athletes and their families.

Expert Guidance Ensuring Success

Sato, an experienced nutritionist and sleep coach, will oversee the program, ensuring that knowledge is implemented consistently throughout the year. By customizing seminars for specific age groups, the program is constructed to enhance family involvement and assist athletes in choosing their diets independently, developing their self-management skills.

Hakujyu and Montedio Yamagata Academy are committed to nurturing a new generation of soccer players who not only excel in their sport but do so while maintaining physical health. With such initiatives, young athletes can thrive, embodying the ideals of their potential while achieving their dreams on and off the field.
