KAGORISE: The Future of Open Innovation in Kagoshima
Kagoshima Prefecture, in collaboration with AlphaDrive, has proudly launched the KAGORISE project, aimed at fostering open innovation among local startups and corporate entities. Set to take place on June 26, 2026, an online information session will outline this groundbreaking initiative, inviting interested parties from the region to learn and engage.
The Meaning Behind KAGORISE
The name „KAGORISE“ combines elements that reflect the essence of Kagoshima: „KAGO“ symbolizes Kagoshima itself, while „RISE“ conveys a sense of elevation and progress. This title encapsulates the vision of startups in Kagoshima rising confidently like the volcanic plume of Sakurajima reaching towards the sky, illuminating the potential of local innovation on a national level.
Overview of KAGORISE
KAGORISE is designed to elevate Kagoshima’s innovations to a broader audience by fostering collaborations between startups and leading local businesses. The project operates two main programs concurrently: one supporting regional startups in expanding their market presence and the other aiding core local enterprises in implementing open innovation strategies. This dual approach aims to cultivate a sustainable co-creation ecosystem within the region.
Supporting Startups
The startup program focuses on personalized support for selected companies, helping them to build partnerships with major corporations and expand their market reach. Participants will benefit from access to a vast network of over 300 large firms, opportunities to present at metropolitan events, and financial assistance to cover operational costs (up to 150,000 JPY).
Supporting Corporations
For established businesses, the corporate program includes a series of three free seminars to methodically cover the fundamentals of open innovation practices. Furthermore, tailored support will guide companies from conceptual discussions to actual collaborations with startups while also offering a financial aid limit of 150,000 JPY.
