Abu Dhabi's Health Ministry and Sanofi Join Forces for Vaccine Innovation
Abu Dhabi's Health Ministry and Sanofi Unite for Vaccine Innovation
In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at revolutionizing vaccine innovation, the Abu Dhabi Health Ministry has partnered with global biopharmaceutical leader Sanofi. The two entities have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bolster their collaborative efforts in advancing vaccine research and development, with plans to establish a dedicated Vaccine Innovation Center in Abu Dhabi. This strategic partnership underscores the commitment of both organizations to strengthen the region's capabilities in addressing future health challenges through cutting-edge science and technology.
During the signing ceremony at the BIO International Convention 2026 in San Diego, esteemed representatives from both organizations were present. H.E. Dr. Noura Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Department of Health, along with Dr. Mohamed Al Ameri, Division Director of Genome and Biobank at the DoH, and Laurie Gery, Global Head of Business Development Vaccines at Sanofi, formalized the agreement. This moment marks a significant step toward an enhanced ecosystem for health innovation that integrates research, clinical infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, and advanced manufacturing techniques.
In her remarks, Dr. Al Ghaithi highlighted the importance of this collaboration, stating, "This partnership unites artificial intelligence, scientific research, and clinical expertise within a unique ecosystem designed to accelerate the journey from discovery to impact. It reflects Abu Dhabi's commitment to fostering an environment where innovators can develop, test, and deploy large-scale solutions that improve quality of life and health outcomes globally."
Baptiste de Clarens, Sanofi's General Manager for Gulf Vaccines, expressed pride in deepening the collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Health Ministry. He noted that today's vaccine innovation is profoundly influenced by advancements in artificial intelligence and mRNA technology, which are critical in linking research, development, and manufacturing. De Clarens emphasized the excitement surrounding the potential to combine these capabilities to expedite the path from discovery to patient.
The envisioned Vaccine Innovation Center is expected to further cement Abu Dhabi's role in global health security, promoting the growth of local scientific talent, state-of-the-art manufacturing capabilities, and next-generation vaccine innovations. By enhancing research, development, and manufacturing capacities in the region, this center will contribute to expanding access to groundbreaking vaccines and fortifying preparedness for future public health challenges.
This announcement coincides with Abu Dhabi's participation in the BIO International Convention 2026, where the emirate showcases its vibrant life sciences ecosystem and collaborations in genomics, genetic editing, AI-based health innovations, advanced therapies, and rare diseases. Abu Dhabi's HELM (Health, Endurance, Longevity, and Medicine) cluster plays a vital role in this ecosystem, integrating research, investment, commercialization, and healthcare delivery under a single framework.
The partnership between the Abu Dhabi Health Ministry and Sanofi is not just a collaboration; it is a significant investment in the future of public health innovation. As they aim to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and real-world health solutions, their efforts are set to pave the way for a healthier and more resilient future for communities worldwide.
