A New Era for GTIA: Focus on the IT Channel



The Global Technology Industry Association (GTIA), formerly recognized as the CompTIA Community, has officially revealed its new name amid a reinforced commitment to serving the Information Technology (IT) channel. This transition marks a significant evolution for the organization, one that emphasizes its dedication exclusively to IT professionals and organizations while continuing its robust legacy spanning over four decades.

Since its inception, the GTIA has been a crucial trade association, connecting thousands of professionals within the IT landscape, including managed service providers (MSPs), technology vendors, and distributors. The recent rebranding was set into motion by the sale of the CompTIA brand and its training and certification operations, which will now function independently. Despite this separation, the core mission of supporting the IT community remains steadfast and deeply embedded in GTIA's operations.

Tracy Pound, the chair of the GTIA Board of Directors, expressed enthusiasm about this new chapter for the association. She stated, "Now that we are singularly focused on the IT channel, we can deliver even more benefits for our members and create an environment where everyone is welcome to shape the future of our industry together."

This transition not only includes a name change but also introduces a substantial endowment generated from the sale of CompTIA's for-profit businesses. This financial foundation is set to support GTIA's operating costs indefinitely, allowing the organization to maintain affordable membership dues while continuing to deliver value through various member benefits. Key events, such as the renowned ChannelCon, will proceed unhindered, supporting networking and professional development opportunities.

Additionally, GTIA aims to enhance its charitable initiatives, with plans to support organizations that are making significant contributions to technology and fostering more inclusive opportunities for individuals entering the tech industry. As a vendor-neutral and non-profit community, GTIA is committed to setting standards that empower its members in a rapidly evolving technological environment.

Leadership at GTIA will remain under the existing board, which consists of influential executives and thought leaders active in the IT channel. The daily operations will be overseen by Chief Operating Officer (COO) Kelly Ricker and Chief Community Officer (CCO) MJ Shoer, who will report directly to the board chair. A search for a new CEO is underway, indicating GTIA's forward-thinking approach in aligning leadership with its vision.

In reflecting on the organization's journey, Shoer added, "Our new name, the Global Technology Industry Association, truly represents our roots and the communities we serve. It broadens our reach and recognizes the diverse needs of our members dedicated to providing technology solutions that sustain and drive the global economy."
