Envision and Statera Collaborate on 680MW Storage Project to Boost UK Renewable Energy

Envision and Statera Unite for a Greener Future

Envision Energy, a prominent player in the realm of green technology, is collaborating with Statera Energy, a UK-based firm, to embark on an ambitious journey in renewable energy storage. Their joint venture focuses on the Carrington Storage Project, a groundbreaking Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) that boasts a notable capacity of 680MW (equivalent to 1360MWh). This initiative is set to be one of the largest battery storage projects in the UK and represents a significant milestone towards achieving a sustainable and flexible energy system.

The Carrington Storage Project

Located in the Trafford Low Carbon Energy Park near Manchester, the Carrington Storage Project is designed to enhance network stability and alleviate the challenges associated with renewable energy integration. Expected to commence operations by the end of 2026, this innovative system is projected to provide electricity to approximately 2.2 million homes for up to two hours. The project is a vital contributor to the UK's goal of reaching net-zero carbon emissions and strengthening energy security.

Major players from various sectors, including Lloyds, Statkraft, NatWest, Santander, Siemens Bank, SEB, and Mizuho, are also integral to this partnership. Their involvement underscores the significant institutional endorsement of large-scale battery storage as a crucial element of the energy transition.

Envision’s Innovative Technology

Envision Energy's contribution to the Carrington Storage Project includes cutting-edge AI-powered energy storage solutions. These systems are designed for optimal integration of renewable energy, high efficiency, and superior lifecycle performance. Statera chose to work with Envision not only for their vast expertise in energy storage and system integration but also for the pioneering capabilities of their AI-driven solutions.

Utilizing a comprehensive energy model, Envision’s system can monitor grid conditions in real-time and actively participate in grid stabilization efforts. This ensures stability in environments with high renewable energy penetration. The proprietary algorithm—comprising forecasting, dispatching, trading, and self-learning functionalities—allows for a shift from traditional experience-based revenue generation to a model-based, sustainable growth strategy. This approach signifies a paradigm shift from conventional hardware systems to AI-integrated solutions, offering high energy density, reduced noise, increased flexibility, and better returns.

Vision for the Future

Henry Peng, Senior Vice President and President for Latin America and Europe at Envision Energy, remarked, “Carrington is one of the largest BESS sites in the UK and marks an essential stride towards the nation's clean energy objectives. We are honored to collaborate with Statera and key stakeholders to deploy our AI-powered BESS solutions and help realization of Statera’s ambitious plan of achieving over 5 GW of BESS capacity by 2030.” He further emphasized that the initiative would enhance grid flexibility and reliability, accelerating the UK’s transition towards a carbon-neutral, renewable energy-focused landscape.

Matt Arnold, Director of BESS Flex Gen at Statera Energy, echoed these sentiments, expressing excitement over the partnership with Envision Energy. Arnold stated, “Envision's proven track record in delivering extensive energy storage systems, complemented by their comprehensive, AI-driven approach, bolsters our capacity to inject flexible and reliable energy into the UK grid.” This collaboration is a testament to the combined commitment to paving the way for a carbon-neutral future.

With a long-standing presence in Europe, Envision Energy has been active in numerous initiatives aimed at facilitating the energy transition in the UK, France, Spain, and beyond. The successful execution of the Carrington project promises to strengthen Envision's foothold in the European renewable energy and energy storage market, thus setting the stage for a greener tomorrow.

As the world increasingly shifts towards renewable energy, projects like Carrington stand as beacons of innovation and collaboration, showcasing how strategic partnerships can lead to sustainable solutions for our planet.
