MetTel to Overhaul U.S. VA's Landlines with POTS Transformation Worth $54 Million
MetTel's Landmark $54 Million Upgrade for the U.S. Veterans Administration
In a significant move towards modernizing communication facilities for veterans, MetTel has been officially selected by the United States Veterans Administration (VA) to upgrade their extensive landline telecommunication system. This initiative, valued at an impressive $54 million, aims to revamp the VA's 15,000 telephone landlines that span across 1,875 locations, integrating innovative technology to enhance service delivery.
A Shift Towards Modernity
The awarded project, known as the POTS Transformation solution, is a multi-year initiative devised to transition the VA’s antiquated telephone systems into a more reliable and efficient modern framework. By leveraging managed services through the GSA's Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions contract, MetTel is set to execute a comprehensive upgrade that promises improved communication quality without the hefty expenses typically associated with replacing existing hardware.
The POTS Transformation will equip both standard and specialized voice lines such as those used for elevators, fire and burglar alarms, emergency 911 services, call boxes, fax machines, and modems. Crucially, the modernization will convert traditional circuit-switched phone signals into a state-of-the-art networked multi-path internet protocol (IP) system. This migration not only ensures enhanced reliability but also provides significant performance visibility and advanced system features, all while retaining the current equipment, therefore minimizing costs.
