Significant Power Improvements for Residents of Trumbull and Ashtabula Counties
Robust Enhancements to Electric Service in Trumbull and Ashtabula Counties
As part of an ambitious investment program, FirstEnergy Corp. is poised to bring reliable power to nearly 10,000 residents and businesses in the rural regions of Trumbull and Ashtabula counties. This major initiative focuses on a significant grid upgrade involving the complete rebuilding of an 11.5-mile high-voltage transmission line, aimed at improving service quality and reliability for local communities.
A Commitment to Reliability
With completion expected by the end of October 2025, this $19 million project is a part of FirstEnergy’s wider strategy dubbed Energize365. Over the next few years, this program will allocate $28 billion to modernize the electric grid, ensuring it meets the demands of today's residents and prepares for future growth.
Mark Mroczynski, FirstEnergy's President of Transmission, emphasized the critical nature of this project. In rural areas, outages can have a more pronounced effect; therefore, enhancing the robustness of the electric grid is paramount to catering to the needs and expectations of customers.
Structural Enhancements for Improved Performance
The newly upgraded transmission line features stronger poles and thicker wires, allowing it to carry greater electricity loads while also reducing the chances of outages. Almost 140 steel structures have been installed, each set into deep concrete foundations for increased durability during severe weather or accidents. This fortified design is particularly impressive in areas with open fields; a singular downed pole might lead to a cascade of failures, amplifying the inconvenience for residents.
The new infrastructure will also ensure that power can be easily rerouted in the event of an outage, minimizing disruptions and fostering greater reliability.
Beyond Power: An Entirely New Era of Electricity
The Energize365 initiative highlights FirstEnergy's dedication to revamping the region’s electric grid. The overarching goal is to create a smarter, more secure grid that is in tune with the growing demands of modern society. As technology evolves, so too must the foundations upon which energy distribution is based.
FirstEnergy Corp's overarching mission involves safety, operational excellence, and unwavering integrity, evident in their service to over six million customers across several states, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and New York.
Looking Forward
This grid upgrade is not just about power. It’s about ensuring that communities can thrive and grow without the disruption caused by power outages, especially when faced with uncontrollable events. As FirstEnergy continues to commit resources to grid enhancement projects, the message is clear: the company is deeply invested in ensuring that these communities enjoy uninterrupted and reliable electricity.
Residents and businesses in Trumbull and Ashtabula counties can expect a marked improvement in service as these enhancements take effect. For additional updates on this and other utility projects, interested parties can follow FirstEnergy online and on their social media platforms.
