About Yuya Hasegawa

Yuya Hasegawa, the founder of BOOT BLACK JAPAN and Brift H, has established a reputation as a world-class shoeshiner. Born in 1984 in Chiba, Japan, he began his shoe-shining journey at the young age of 20 and opened the world's first counter-style shoe-shining shop in Tokyo’s Minato district, called Brift H. He won the first World Championship in Shoe Shining held in London and has been featured on NHK's 'Professional - Style of Work.' Hasegawa continues to promote the art of shoe shining through various initiatives, including multiple shop locations such as 'Brift H SAPPORO,' 'THE SHOESHINE & BAR,' and 'BAG by Brift H.'

What to Bring

Participants are encouraged to bring their sneakers for the workshop, particularly those made of smooth leather, suede, or nubuck. To avoid the risk of staining clothing during the polishing process, please wear appropriate attire. All cleaning tools and materials will be supplied, allowing you to arrive empty-handed.

This exhibition is set to provide insights into sneaker maintenance, exploring different material types, cleaning methods, and preventative care techniques. With myriad materials used in sneaker production, the ways dirt gathers can vary significantly, creating different maintenance challenges.

During the exhibition, Hasegawa's book and shoe care products will also be available for purchase to help sneaker lovers enhance their shoe care knowledge and tools.
