UPDATER and TBSGX Collaborate on Innovative Story-Driven Power Plants

UPDATER and TBSGX: Creating Story-Driven Power Plants

In an exciting collaboration aimed at addressing pressing social issues through renewable energy, UPDATER, a company based in Setagaya, Tokyo, is set to work alongside TBS Green Transformation (TBSGX). This partnership will utilize UPDATER's expertise in carbon-neutral solutions to develop innovative power plants, embracing a concept they call "story-driven power plants".

UPDATER's flagship service, Minna Denryoku, will play a central role in this initiative, providing comprehensive support in project management, asset management, and renewable energy supply through Power Purchase Agreements (PPA).

Overview of the Project

The project’s aim is to create two solar power facilities in Shioya Town and Sakura City in Tochigi Prefecture. These facilities will serve dual purposes: generating renewable energy and revitalizing local agriculture through the concept of solar sharing. Both power plants are expected to commence operations in the fall of 2026.

TBSGX: A New Initiative

Founded in June 2025, TBSGX is dedicated to fostering climate change initiatives across the TBS Group. It oversees the creation and procurement of renewable energy for the group, making it an essential player in TBS's efforts toward sustainability. UPDATER holds a 5% stake in TBSGX, positioning itself as a technological and operational partner in renewable energy projects.

Comprehensive Support from Planning to Operation

From planning, which includes site assessments and energy assessments to post-construction operations like maintenance and inspections, UPDATER will cater to every aspect of the project lifecycle. The generated energy will be supplied to various companies within the TBS Group through a structured PPA, allowing them to harness renewable energy effectively.

This strategic joint effort will not only bolster TBS's aim to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2030 but will also create social value by supporting local agriculture and community engagement.

The Importance of Story-Driven Power Plants

The innovative concept of "story-driven power plants" seeks to extend beyond mere energy generation. UPDATER aims to tackle local challenges such as agricultural labor shortages and land revitalization through sustainable energy practices. The approach integrates local community needs with environmental sustainability, ensuring a beneficial coexistence.

As the partnership progresses, UPDATER intends to produce power stations tailored to client needs, much like custom-built homes, emphasizing the creation of high social value. With additional similar projects already in the pipeline, the company is eager to harness its expertise to build more socially responsible power facilities that serve as financial and community assets.
