Unseenlabs Launches Gen 2 Satellite: BRO-31
Unseenlabs, the leader in space-based RF detection, has opened a new chapter in satellite technology with the introduction of its first Generation 2 (Gen 2) satellite, named BRO-31. This launch not only marks a technological milestone but also broadens Unseenlabs’ ability to monitor radio frequencies across multiple domains—maritime, terrestrial, and celestial.
Launch Details
On July 7, 2026, BRO-31 was deployed aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket during the Transporter-17 rideshare mission, launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. Integrated by the German company Exolaunch, BRO-31 adds significant power to Unseenlabs' existing constellation, enhancing its capabilities to a new level of sophistication and efficiency.
Expanded Detection Capabilities
The Gen 2 satellite aims to extend its detection capabilities across a more comprehensive frequency palette that includes L, S, C, X, and Ku-bands. Unlike its predecessor Generation 1 satellites, which operationalized multiple satellites in formation for detection, BRO-31 utilizes a proprietary technology that allows it to independently geolocate RF emitters with a single satellite. This innovation makes information gathering not only more effective but also considerably more cost-efficient.
“By offering richer, multi-domain radio frequency intelligence, our Gen 2 constellation serves a critical need for both U.S. defense and commercial sectors,” stated Craig Brower, president and CEO of Unseenlabs US. “The integration of RF data into GEOINT workflows enables analysts to detect activities faster and provide timely context to ongoing events, whether on land, at sea, or in space.”
Technological Advancements
BRO-31 is significantly larger than its Gen 1 counterparts, weighing in at 150 kg compared to the previous models at 15 kg. This increase in size translates to a greatly enhanced detection power and expanded coverage. This microsatellite is designed for dual-use applications, inclusive of maritime surveillance, telecom infrastructure assessments, and monitoring of electromagnetic competition—a crucial capability as jamming threats and interference in GNSS systems escalate.
Unseenlabs transforms the landscape of RF intelligence and situational awareness. Operating with nearly a decade of experience in space, the company distinguishes itself with its unique monosatellite technology, which empowers it to monitor vast areas—up to one million square kilometers—effectively and during any weather conditions, across the globe or into orbit.
Rising Importance of RF Intelligence
With the rise of competitor activities in the electromagnetic spectrum, the significance of RF intelligence is becoming increasingly evident. The capabilities of BRO-31 in providing critical insights in complex environments demonstrate its tactical importance, particularly for military and defense sectors. As satellite interference threats grow in sophistication, this satellite stands at the forefront of providing actionable intelligence to mitigate potential risks.
