Creating Future Coins: A Fun Workshop in Ginza
On August 1, 2026, Atelier Etoile will host a children’s workshop titled "Creating Future Coins with Artist Nobe Masaharu" during the 57th Holiday Promenade event, "Yukata de Ginbura 2026." This workshop invites young creatives to explore the history of Ginza as a silver coin mint and imagine what a future Ginza coin might look like.
Exploring Ginza's Heritage
Ginza, known for its history of silver coin minting which began in 1612, serves as the perfect backdrop for this imaginative program. Participants will be encouraged to think: "If there were new coins in future Ginza, what would they look like?" By using repurposed materials, children will have the opportunity to express their visions of these future coins freely.
Through art creation, kids will not only learn about Ginza's historical significance but also transform their thoughts into tangible objects. They will enjoy the process of dialogue and collaboration with peers, fostering creativity and innovative thinking.
A Creative Experience with Nobe Masaharu
Artist Nobe Masaharu is renowned for finding new value and meaning in everyday materials. Throughout the workshop, children will learn to appreciate the joy of creation, the excitement of experimentation, and the occasional challenges that come with artistic endeavors. The focus will be on understanding that even objects that seem useless can be reimagined with a change in perspective.
This experience is not merely about the finished products; rather, it emphasizes the importance of the creative process—thinking, crafting, and discussing ideas, nurturing every child's unique perspective.
Atelier Etoile’s Commitment to Artistic Education
Atelier Etoile operates at the intersection of art education and cultural exchange between France and Japan. The organization strives to open up artistic dialogue among children, promoting engagement with diverse values through engaging programs that often collaborate with museums, cultural institutions, and municipalities.
"Ginza holds a special place in Japan’s manufacturing history and cultural evolution. With this workshop, we hope to help children understand history while feeling empowered to envision and create the future of Ginza. We encourage participants to experience the excitement and inspiration that can arise from conversations with an artist of Nobe Masaharu's caliber," said a representative from Atelier Etoile.
