HUAWEI XMAGE Awards 2025: Celebrating Mobile Photography

The HUAWEI XMAGE Awards 2025 officially commenced at the launch event for the HUAWEI Pura 80. This annual competition is recognized as a significant platform for mobile photography, allowing creative individuals to showcase their talents while sharing the power of imagery with a broader audience. Since its inception in 2017, the awards have garnered nearly five million submissions from users spanning 170 countries and regions, establishing itself as one of the largest and most influential mobile photography competitions worldwide.

The XMAGE photography initiative has revolutionized the industry by introducing groundbreaking technologies, including advanced telephoto, macro, night, snapshot, portrait, color, and video capabilities, covering every aspect of mobile photography. The newly launched HUAWEI Pura 80 smartphone series is equipped with these innovative features, further enhancing the user experience.

Awards Categories and Judging Process

This year's awards will feature several categories, including 'So Far So Close,' 'Good Night,' and 'Colour Shade,' alongside returning favorites such as 'Faces,' 'A Heartwarming World,' 'Experimental Lab,' 'Storyboard,' and 'Action.' Notably, the selection process has been updated to invite a jury of esteemed professionals who will shortlist 1,000 exceptional works. From this selection, the 'XMAGE 100' will be recognized for special awards, alongside the announcement of three top photographers of the year.

The judging panel consists of nine distinguished members with diverse professional backgrounds, such as:

• - Liu Heung Shing: Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist
• - Chen Xiaobo: Senior editor at Xinhua News Agency and photo researcher
• - Wang Chuan: Professor and Ph.D. advisor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts
• - Chen Jie: Documentary photographer
• - Nichole Fernandez: Visual sociologist
• - Florence Bourgeois: Director of Paris Photo
• - Shoair Mavlian: Director of The Photographers' Gallery
• - Fannie Escoulen: Curator of visual arts
• - Li Changzhu: Head of strategy at Huawei's Health Team

The submission period for the XMAGE Awards 2025 is now open, with entries accepted via the official competition website, My HUAWEI, HUAWEI Community, and Instagram. The deadline for submissions is set for September 15, 2025, at 12 PM Beijing Time (GMT +8).
