UPF Establishes New AI Management Support Division Amid Growing Demand

In an era where artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming an integral part of business operations, UPF Corporation has responded to the rising need for robust AI governance by establishing its new AI Management Support Division. This initiative comes as a result of a significant uptick in inquiries and support requests related to AI management, primarily surrounding the services launched in July 2025, including the intra-company AI guideline creation service and support for ISO/IEC 42001 (AIMS) certification.

Background of the Service Launch: Navigating Risks Without AI Rules

As tools like ChatGPT and Claude Code rapidly proliferate, many businesses are eager to leverage these technologies. However, a concerning trend has emerged—employees are frequently using AI without established internal guidelines for its application. This could lead to severe risks, such as inputting sensitive company information, trade secrets, or personal data into AI systems without adequate safeguards. The potential for information leaks looms large, raising alarms about data security incidents and breaches.

Moreover, UPF has seen an uptick in concerns from companies regarding unauthorized uploads of their documents or data by partners into AI systems. This anxiety directly impacts trust in business relationships, emphasizing the urgent need for visible and clearly defined AI usage rules to foster confidence between organizations.

The risks associated with AI are multi-faceted and include:
  • - Information Leaks and Security Risks: The external leakage of sensitive information, personal data, and partner data.
  • - Intellectual Property Risks: Uncertainty regarding ownership rights for AI-generated content or unauthorized use of third-party works.
  • - Accuracy and Fairness Risks: Distortions in decision-making due to biases or inaccuracies in AI outputs.
  • - Legal and Ethical Risks: Violations of regulations, biased outputs, or repercussions for users.
  • - Supply Chain Risks: Data leaks and governance failures stemming from AI usage by contractors and partners.

In light of these concerns, international standards such as ISO/IEC 42001 (AI Management System) and the AI Business Guide (Version 1.2) published by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry are gaining traction. These frameworks serve as common standards for organizations to integrate AI safely and responsibly.

Establishment of the AI Management Support Division: A Response to Increased Demand

Since its launch in July 2025, UPF has been actively assisting numerous enterprises, including big companies, in obtaining AIMS certifications. Initially, the existing consulting team addressed queries and provided information primarily to companies interested in AI governance. However, a staggering increase in requests—over 200 inquiries—was observed between April and June 2026. Inquiries came from various sectors, including IT, finance, manufacturing, healthcare, retail, and outsourcing, as both small and large enterprises began recognizing the necessity for AI risk management.

In response to this heightened demand, UPF has launched the AI Management Support Division, which focuses specifically on building AI management systems and providing certification support while aiding in the development of intra-company AI guidelines. By significantly increasing the number of dedicated consultants and support staff, UPF aims to reduce the time from inquiry to the start of active support, ensuring continuous assistance for clients.

Services Offered by the AI Management Support Division

The newly established division provides two key services:

1. AIMS (ISO/IEC 42001) Certification Support

The ISO/IEC 42001 standard outlines the framework for AI management systems. This service aims to help organizations develop and implement responsible management of AI through comprehensive support, which includes:
  • - Gap Analysis: Assessing how well the organization meets the ISO/IEC 42001 criteria.
  • - System Design and Documentation: Structuring risk management processes and audit frameworks.
  • - Support for Certification Body Engagement: Guidance through the application process to site review, led by experienced ISO assessors.
  • - Continuous Operational Support Post-Certification: Assistance with annual and renewal audits.

Service Fee: Starting at 900,000 yen (excluding tax)—fees may vary depending on company size and industry.

2. AI Intra-Company Guideline Development Support

Designed for organizations that do not intend to seek certification but wish to establish internal AI usage rules. This service involves:
  • - Current State Assessment: Visualizing the status of AI tool and system integration within the organization.
  • - AI Risk Assessment: Identifying and evaluating security, privacy, intellectual property, legal, and ethical risks per usage scenario.
  • - Guideline Formulation: Documenting internal rules, approval processes, and prohibited activities, with integration support into existing organizational regulations.
  • - Employee Training and Adoption Assistance: Ongoing support for awareness, training, and regular reviews throughout the organization.

Service Fee: Starting at 150,000 yen (excluding tax).

Why UPF is Positioned to Provide These Services

With a track record of assisting over 5,500 companies in securing various certifications, including privacy marks and ISMS (ISO27001), UPF leverages its extensive experience in developing management systems across diverse sectors, recognizing that risk manifestation varies by industry and that rules disconnected from operational realities are unlikely to be adhered to.

The processes crucial for establishing AI governance—like risk assessment, rule documentation, operational framework development, and periodic reviews—are fundamentally analogous to those in information security management. By applying proven methods honed across more than 5,500 implementations, UPF can facilitate guided, practical, and tailored guideline formulation and AIMS establishment, irrespective of industry, size, or current AI utilization. Moreover, the consultancy team includes active ISO assessors from accredited bodies, ensuring that expert assistance leads to robust and effective governance structures that withstand external scrutiny.
