APL Logistics Opens a New Distribution and Fulfilment Center in Amsterdam
APL Logistics, a prominent global provider in supply chain logistics and part of the Kintetsu World Express (KWE) Group, has recently inaugurated a dedicated distribution and fulfilment center at the Port of Amsterdam. This strategic move reflects the company’s commitment to expanding its operational footprint in Europe, in response to the increasing demand for efficient logistics solutions.
The newly established facility marks a significant milestone in APL’s long-standing European operations, positioning the company as a reliable partner for its customers who require enhanced capacity and seamless integration of services. According to Thad Bedard, President of APL Logistics, "This center aligns perfectly with what our customers expect from us in Europe, namely increased capacity, closer integration, and a dependable partner for the long term. The Netherlands has always been a critical part of our European strategy, and Amsterdam is the logical next step to develop a robust infrastructure that enables our customers to remain competitive in an increasingly complex global environment."
Facility Highlights
The new center, located in Atlaspark, spans an impressive 10,200 square meters and is equipped with 13 loading docks. Its central location within the Port of Amsterdam provides multimodal connectivity via water, rail, road, and air, making it an ideal hub for servicing customers throughout the Netherlands and Western Europe. Additionally, its proximity to the Port of Rotterdam—one of Europe’s busiest ports—ensures excellent access to international shipping routes and continental freight corridors.
Advanced Technology and Capabilities
This semi-automated center features autonomous mobile robots and an automated conveyor system, fully integrated with APL Logistics' global technology framework. This configuration allows for seamless integration into client systems and offers complete order-level transparency from origin to destination. Services provided at this location extend from quality checks and price labeling to pick and pack operations and broader EMEA distribution. Kim Overman, Regional Vice President for EMEA at APL Logistics, notes the critical pressure their European customers face—varying routes, changing regulations, and the constant need to enhance speed while reducing costs and emissions. She affirms, "Amsterdam offers us a platform to respond with precision, combining excellent multimodal connectivity with our global digital tools and dedicated account teams to achieve order-level transparency and control from origin to destination."
The Amsterdam center complements APL Logistics’ existing European network, with additional strategic developments planned for 2026 and beyond. The expansion underlines APL's commitment to investing in infrastructure that meets growing market needs while enhancing service delivery for its diverse customer base, which encompasses retail, consumer goods, industrial, and automotive sectors.
