Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute Hosts Major Symposium on Heart Arrhythmias
The Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute (TCAI), part of St. David's Medical Center, successfully conducted its eighth international symposium focused on complex heart arrhythmias on May 28-29, 2026. This event gathered an unprecedented 1,600 participants from diverse countries including Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, and Italy, with 200 attending in person.
The symposium, known as EP Live 2026, attracted healthcare professionals including doctors, nurse practitioners, and allied medical personnel interested in the latest treatments for complex heart arrhythmias, which refer to irregular heartbeats. A significant educational tool used during the sessions were real-time broadcasts of clinical cases, moderated by experts from TCAI's state-of-the-art Electrophysiology Center.
According to Dr. Andrea Natale, a prominent cardiologist and Executive Medical Director at TCAI, the high turnout reflects the increasing demand for hands-on, real-world case-based education and collaboration in this vital field. Dr. Natale emphasized the importance of sharing knowledge and innovations which can help advance cardiovascular care and improve outcomes for millions worldwide affected by heart arrhythmias.
During this two-day event, clinical cases highlighted groundbreaking technologies and methodologies that were first introduced by TCAI doctors. A memorable demonstration showcased a combined approach involving both Atrial Fibrillation (A Fib) ablation and Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion (LAAO) into a single procedure. Patients with A Fib face a significantly elevated risk of stroke, and this innovative approach reduces the necessity for multiple procedures, thereby minimizing potential complications.
Furthermore, attendees witnessed the latest advancements in impulse field ablation, a non-thermal technique utilizing brief high-energy electrical pulses to destroy the cells causing arrhythmias without excessive heating or cooling of the heart tissue.
The symposium consisted of four sessions merging both live and recorded cases from TCAI, alongside leading centers globally such as Colombia's International Arrhythmia Center at Cardioinfantil Foundation, Italy's Centro Cardiologico Monzino, and renowned facilities in the United States like Cleveland Clinic, Houston Methodist, and Massachusetts General Hospital.
In addition to Dr. Natale, the program featured leading professionals from TCAI, including Course Co-Director Dr. Amin Al-Ahmad, Dr. John Allison, Dr. Khaled Awad, and several others who contributed their expertise during the event. Participants were awarded a total of 14.5 AMA Category 1 Credits™ under the Physician's Recognition Award (PRA).
EP Live 2026 not only served as an educational platform but also facilitated networking among top electrophysiologists, fostering an environment where the latest research and practices could be discussed and shared. The incorporation of live-cast technology allowed for a dynamic and interactive experience, showcasing not only TCAI's innovations but also collaboration across borders in the field of cardiac health.
