Oclean Advocates Scientific Approach to Oral Hygiene on World Oral Health Day

Oclean Champions a Scientific Approach to Oral Hygiene

In celebration of World Oral Health Day, held annually on March 20th, the European Council of Dentists (CED) recently published alarming statistics: a staggering 76% of adults in the EU employ improper manual brushing techniques, directly correlating with preventable gum disease. To tackle this pressing issue, Oclean, a renowned name in oral care technology, has introduced a scientifically-backed six-step method for maintaining optimal oral hygiene, based on three years of user behavior research.

The Six-Step Oral Hygiene Method

1. Tongue Cleaning: Begin each morning by using a tongue scraper to eliminate residue and volatile sulfur compounds that have built up overnight.

2. Flossing: In the evening, utilize dental floss to remove food particles lodged between the teeth, crucial for preventing plaque and gum inflammation.

3. Oral Irrigation: Employ a mouth irrigator to clear leftover food debris between teeth, enhancing hygiene in inter-dental spaces. It’s important to note, however, that irrigators should not fully substitute traditional flossing.

4. Brushing: Brush your teeth at least twice a day, whether with a manual or electric toothbrush. The recommendation is to brush for a minimum of two minutes to ensure thorough cleaning. While manual toothbrushes may execute 300 to 600 strokes per minute, an electric or sonic toothbrush can achieve up to 84,000 strokes within the same timeframe. "The difference lies not only in the number but also in the effectiveness of these strokes," explains dentist Dr. Márk Dergez.

5. Mouthwash Use: Mouth rinse refreshes breath and combats bacteria. For best results, avoid rinsing your mouth immediately after brushing or using mouthwash to allow fluoride to adhere to teeth effectively.

6. Sterilization of Instruments: Regularly place your toothbrush in a UV sterilizer to eliminate bacteria that may accumulate on the brush head during the day or night. *Note that individual health conditions may vary, and those with specific concerns should consult a dentist for personalized recommendations.
