BAE Systems Chosen to Innovate Space Force Missile Warning Satellite Ground Control
BAE Systems Enhances Satellite Control for U.S. Space Force
BAE Systems has been appointed by the U.S. Space Force Space Systems Command to innovate a new satellite command and control (C2) system through its Future Operationally Resilient Ground Evolution (FORGE) program. This upgrade is set to improve the command capabilities for missile warning satellites, ensuring enhanced security and defense.
A Step Forward in Satellite Operations
The FORGE C2 initiative will allow the Space Force to utilize BAE Systems’ proprietary software, consolidating essential applications such as telemetry, tracking, command, mission management, and resource management. This integration into one comprehensive system aims to simplify satellite operations, significantly reduce operational costs, streamline maintenance, ease the training process for operators, and allow future expansions for upcoming missile warning systems.
Don Speranzini, vice president and general manager for Ground Systems Services at BAE Systems, stated, "FORGE C2 represents an innovative new approach to advancing command and control capabilities for the Space Force." He further emphasized the collaborative effort with the Space Force to design a system that monitors threats effectively while strengthening defense for the United States and its allies.
Building on Historical Expertise
The FORGE C2 program is anchored in BAE Systems’ extensive experience in developing high-quality ground systems for defense and intelligence sectors. The company's prior work on infrared sensor payloads for the Next-Generation Overhead Persistent Infrared (Next-Gen OPIR) constellation highlights its deep understanding of mission requirements. This history has positioned BAE Systems as a strategic partner in enhancing missile warning capabilities.
BAE’s commitment to innovative solutions not only addresses current requirements but also paves the way for future advancements in satellite technology. As global defense strategies evolve, having a robust C2 system is critical to anticipating and countering potential threats from adversarial actions in space.
The collaboration between BAE Systems and the U.S. Space Force represents a forward-thinking approach to military operations, signifying a noteworthy development in space defense strategies.
As operations transition to the FORGE C2 system, stakeholders can expect enhanced responsiveness and adaptability in satellite management, significantly improving the operational resilience and effectiveness of U.S. missile warning capabilities.
