The annual Sunshine City Summer Bon Odori Festival returns to Ikebukuro, Tokyo, from July 30 to August 1 this year, welcoming everyone to partake in a cherished summer tradition. Festival Details

Held at the rooftop of the Alpa shopping complex and Sunshine Plaza, the festival will feature a beautifully constructed 6-meter high stage, where classic dance performances such as Tokyo Ondo and the local specialty Otsuka Monogatari Ondo will be performed. As attendees gather, the nostalgic atmosphere of past summers will envelop everyone, allowing guests to experience the essence of traditional summer festivals.

With an average attendance of about 5,000 people over the three days, the event has seen an increase in participation not only from local residents but also from younger audiences and international visitors. Amid the substantial urban redevelopment taking place in Ikebukuro, this festival stands as a beacon of tradition and community engagement, inviting participants to enjoy the nostalgic flavors of a Japanese summer right in the metropolis.

Activities and Offerings

As part of the experience, the Food and Workshop Corner will feature stalls from ten different vendors, providing an enticing variety of food options including shaved ice and okonomiyaki, alongside a bead keychain workshop for guests looking to get hands-on.
For children, a special Mini Yennichi area designed exclusively for elementary school students will offer free games like target shooting and ring toss from 7 PM to 8 PM each day. Volunteers from Sunshine City Office tenants and group employees will be on hand to support the event, enhancing the communal atmosphere.

Additionally, each visitor will receive a unique tenugui (Japanese hand towel) as a souvenir, available on a first-come, first-served basis until supplies last.
