Kids In Need Foundation Launches Major School Readiness Initiative

As the back-to-school season draws near, the Kids In Need Foundation (KINF) is swiftly moving to support more than 2 million students through one of the country’s most extensive initiatives aimed at ensuring school readiness. This monumental effort, which involves partnership with 90,500 teachers and 6,700 schools across 46 states, aims to prepare students not just for their academic pursuits, but also to foster a sense of community and belonging from day one.

A Comprehensive Approach to School Resources

The KINF recognizes that the back-to-school experience is about much more than acquiring school supplies; it's about setting students up for success. According to educators, having access to necessary supplies significantly influences students' confidence and ability to engage actively in their classroom environment. In fact, this year, KINF aims to aid over 2,039,000 students and their educators primarily in economically disadvantaged areas where access to such resources is often limited.

Remarkably, approximately 80% of the schools receiving support this year are returning partners, illustrating a sustained commitment to enhancing educational opportunities in communities over time. The remaining 20% are new partners, broadening the scope of support to additional students and teachers across the nation. This expansion of reach has been made viable through strategic national partnerships and investments in technology that facilitate efficient distribution of supplies.

Increased Operational Capacity

KINF has dramatically scaled its operational capacity, increasing its facility size to 75,000 square feet. This enhancement has more than tripled its ability to effectively move supplies across the country. A strategic adjustment in fulfillment timelines allows most schools to receive necessary supplies prior to the conclusion of summer break. By early June, a significant portion of school commitments had already been fulfilled, providing educators and families ample time to prepare for the upcoming school year without the logistical challenges that frequently accompany this period.

The pressing need for resources is underscored by the findings of KINF's 2026 Teacher Insight Survey, which gathered insights from over 7,400 educators. This survey reported troubling trends, including that more than half of teachers have seen students arrive at school lacking essential supplies. Additionally, 64% noted that their students did not have enough materials at home to complete their assignments. Moreover, the reliance on schools for hygiene items and reading materials highlights the crucial role educational institutions play in meeting diverse needs.

The Positive Impact of Access to Resources

Access to school supplies has also been linked to greater academic success and a more equitable learning environment. Nearly all educators surveyed expressed that supplies enhance student preparedness, positively impacting participation and confidence in learning. With this in mind, the KINF aims to champion these ideals through its ongoing work.
