Enhancing Disaster Response Skills for Riders
The Japan Riders Forum (JRF) has announced the launch of its distinctive training curriculum called the Rock Club, designed for riders to learn essential skills for disaster support. As part of its official rollout, a pre-training event will take place at the Yamanakako Communication Plaza in Yamanashi Prefecture on June 20, 2026, providing a stepping stone for participants wishing to enhance their preparedness for emergencies.
This training is crucial for developing private sector riders who can swiftly respond to disasters. In Japan, a disaster-prone nation, the ability to navigate disrupted roadways effectively with motorcycles can significantly impact relief efforts. JRF has focused on this advantage and is establishing a training regime that empowers civilians to act appropriately in critical times.
The Pre-Training Overview and Curriculum
The pre-training will consist of practical sessions on riding in unpaved and challenging conditions. Participants will learn essential techniques to safely traverse routes often affected during disasters, such as landslides or debris.
Instructors include professionals like Shin Nosuke Kazama, who possesses an international A-class motocross license and is a veteran of the 2017 and 2018 Dakar Rally, ensuring that participants will gain insights from seasoned experts. Participants are encouraged to use their own motorcycles (off-road bikes recommended), although a limited number of off-road trial bikes will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The curriculum also includes a classroom lecture on disaster response knowledge and techniques, focusing on effective communication procedures during emergencies, and how riders can contribute to relief efforts while minimizing secondary hazards. In case of rain, the practical elements will be swapped for additional classroom sessions.
