Ace Green Recycling Partners with Spiro for Battery Recycling in Africa
Ace Green Recycling and Spiro Unite for Sustainable Battery Solutions in Africa
In a significant move towards promoting sustainability, Ace Green Recycling, a leader in battery recycling technology, has joined forces with Spiro, Africa's premier electric vehicle (EV) company. This strategic partnership aims to strengthen the circular battery economy on the African continent, supporting Spiro's mission to revolutionize electric mobility while minimizing environmental impact.
Partnership Overview
On January 27, 2025, the two companies announced their collaboration, establishing Ace as Spiro's exclusive global recycling partner. This partnership is particularly focused on recycling lithium-ion battery material, which includes lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, derived from Spiro's end-of-life batteries and waste products generated from its manufacturing processes in Africa.
Co-located Recycling Centers
A key component of the agreement involves the development of co-located recycling centers situated near Spiro's collection hubs. These centers will utilize Ace's proprietary, eco-friendly technology to ensure that battery recycling is handled efficiently and safely. This initiative not only promotes responsible recycling but also supports Spiro’s ambitious growth plans as it scales operations across various African countries.
Commitment to Sustainability
Kaushik Burman, CEO of Spiro, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, "Spiro's focus on circularity has been at the core of deploying the largest electric mobility fleet in Africa. Partnering with Ace will accelerate our progress in a sustainable and responsible manner." The partnership highlights the commitment of both companies to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 12 on responsible consumption and production, and Goal 13 which addresses climate action.
Nishchay Chadha, CEO of Ace Green Recycling, added, "Our innovative and green LithiumFirst™ technology enables efficient recycling of lithium-ion materials, including LFP. We are dedicated to expanding our modular solutions to create a circular value chain that responds to the rising demand for battery recycling in the region."
