CATL Launches Innovative TENER Stack at Smarter E South America 2025

In a remarkable display of innovation and commitment to sustainable energy, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) unveiled its latest product, the TENER Stack, during the Smarter E South America 2025 exhibition. As the largest energy storage event on the continent, this platform allowed CATL to emphasize its leadership position in the global energy storage market.

The Groundbreaking TENER Stack

The TENER Stack is the world's first stackable energy storage system with an unprecedented capacity of 9MWh. This system adapts to various CATL cell technologies and is tailored to address the diverse climatic conditions in South America. It offers impressive features such as the ability to remain degradation-free for up to five years and high thermal resistance, making it a reliable solution for the region's energy challenges.

Ray See, Executive President of the Americas Energy Storage Business Division, highlighted Brazil's unique position in the energy market. "Brazil possesses one of the most diversified applications of energy storage systems in the world," he stated, underscoring how CATL's technology can significantly contribute to the region's transition to cleaner energy sources.

Adapting to Brazil's Energy Landscape

With an increasing reliance on renewable energy sources within Brazil’s electric grid, the need for flexibility and robust energy storage solutions is more pressing than ever. BloombergNEF noted that Brazil's storage sector is anticipated to experience rapid growth, necessitating massive investments to meet Net Zero targets by 2050.

The TENER Stack offers innovative solutions by fully charging 45 electric buses within its 9MWh capacity or providing six years of power to an average household. Compared to conventional 20-foot systems, it ensures a 45% more efficient use of land area and boasts a 50% higher projected energy density. This innovative design allows for reduced logistical costs and promotes ease of transport across diverse regions.

Safety and Efficiency Features

Safety and reliability are paramount in the TENER Stack's design. Utilization of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery chemistry ensures thermal stability, while improved gas sensors are 40% more sensitive, enabling faster fire suppression. The triple-layer insulation provides up to two hours of resistance against fires, and the system passes IEEE693 seismic standards, capable of withstanding significant earthquakes and hurricanes. Additionally, the TENER Stack operates quietly, which is vital for urban areas.

Specific challenges in South America, such as frequent grid fluctuations and high temperatures, have shaped the engineered resilience of the TENER Stack. The new gas sensors are designed to last 10 years without requiring maintenance, a significant upgrade from the traditional two-year lifespan. This longevity helps in reducing operational interruptions, especially in remote installations where regular maintenance could be problematic.

Expanding Commitment to Sustainability

CATL has already achieved notable milestones in Brazil, including powering the first utility-scale storage project in the nation, the Registro Energy Storage Project, launched in 2022. The project has already marked significant progress and has become a reference point for energy storage in South America.

Looking ahead, CATL is strengthening its presence throughout South America, actively forming local teams in countries like Chile, Argentina, Mexico, and Colombia. This September, a new office in Chile is set to enhance customer support and innovation efforts across the continent.

By promoting the TENER Stack alongside other advanced energy solutions such as the EnerOne+ series, CATL is poised to aid partners in achieving their clean energy goals. The company's persistent advancements and local commitment reflect a determined approach to fostering a sustainable energy future in South America and beyond.

In conclusion, as CATL continues to evolve, its innovative energy solutions will play a vital role in supporting global energy transitions towards more adaptable and safe systems, reinforcing the importance of innovation in driving sustainability. As of the first half of 2025, CATL's energy storage systems have been integrated into over 2,000 projects worldwide, showcasing its pivotal role in transforming the energy storage landscape.
