Equilend and Cboe Clear Europe Join Forces
Equilend, a prominent player in the financial technology sector, has recently announced a strategic partnership with Cboe Clear Europe. This collaboration aims to integrate Equilend's trading and post-trade systems with Cboe Clear Europe's securities lending infrastructure. This integration promises to simplify the clearing process for clients by allowing them to access central clearing services without the need to develop direct connectivity to a central counterparty (CCP).
Understanding the Agreement
The new arrangement means that Equilend clients can submit trades for clearing directly through Equilend's NGT trading platform or via a post-trade workflow. This functionality covers a wide array of transactions, including European and U.S. equities, fixed income products, and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). With access to over 20 global Central Securities Depositories (CSDs), the integration facilitates a seamless trade lifecycle.
Clients have the flexibility to manage their trades through their preferred channels, whether at the point of execution or through post-trade options. This allows for independence in choosing Equilend as their service provider, without having to worry about specific counterparty dynamics. Moreover, the integration supports existing clients' platforms, including Equilend’s Spire and 1Source, further smoothing operational processes and reducing the need for costly technology overhauls.
The Importance of Central Clearing
Since the launch of Cboe Clear Europe’s central clearing service for securities financing transactions in 2025, there has been significant growth and demand from within the securities lending industry. Initially covering European equities and ETFs, the service has expanded to include U.S. fixed income products. The recent addition of U.S. equities showcases Cboe Clear Europe's commitment to broadening its service offerings, with plans to introduce additional asset classes soon.
This central clearing mechanism is becoming increasingly essential in the market, particularly due to the potential for more favorable capital treatment associated with CCP-cleared transactions. Clients in this space are becoming more aware of how these benefits can impact their overall operational efficiency and risk management.

Similarly, Jan Treuren, Head of Product at Cboe Clear Europe, emphasized the strong adoption of their central clearing services and expressed enthusiasm about the agreement with Equilend, aiming to streamline access for clients in a way that aligns with their current operational workflows.
