An Accomplished Career
Schmertzler's extensive background in investment and corporate finance makes him a significant asset for the Hamilton Lane Board. He has been an influential figure in the world of academia as a lecturer and adjunct professor at Yale University since 1998, where he has shared his knowledge in the Department of Economics and the School of Management. Additionally, he was a visiting professor at Yale-NUS College in Singapore, demonstrating his versatility and international appeal.

As a notable business leader, Schmertzler is currently the chairman of PTC Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: PTCT), which focuses on developing treatments for rare genetic disorders. Moreover, he holds executive positions at Berryville Holdings and Dispel, LLC, where he oversees the development of essential protection and communication systems for the defense and intelligence communities. His role in biotechnology is further emphasized through his leadership at SHY Therapeutics and AgNovos, both companies committed to innovative healthcare solutions. Furthermore, Schmertzler serves as a charter trustee at Phillips Academy Andover.

Previously, Schmertzler was an independent director for Lehman Commercial Paper, Inc. following its bankruptcy from 2012 to 2020. His impressive career also includes positions as a managing director at Credit Suisse First Boston Equity Partners and Morgan Stanley, where he occupied senior roles, leading investment committees and managing substantial financial portfolios.
