What to Expect at the "Smell Exhibit Plus"

Sony's unique scent control technology promises visitors a series of mesmerizing olfactory experiences tailored through various interactive installations. This event aims to revolutionize how we perceive scents, a sense that has long been underexplored compared to other senses. Sony has developed an olfactory presentation device known as the NOS-DX1000, alongside the Grid Scent™, designed to create specific scent experiences in defined areas, making scents accessible like never before. Explore how this fascinating sensory technology is applied across entertainment, healthcare, and research.

Exciting Interactive Installations

Three key attractions will showcase the range of experiences:

1. "Smell Quiz"

The most popular feature! Named “The Mouth of Truth,” visitors will be challenged to identify randomly released scents. Unexpected and sometimes intense smells create thrilling moments as the aromas dissipate almost instantly, leaving participants surprised.

2. "Scent Tunnel"

A beautifully arranged space surrounded by vividly colored flowers presents unique scents at different spots, giving visitors a whimsical and immersive experience as if stepping into a storybook.

3. "Magic Scent Cup"

Filled with water or carbonated water, these cups allow you to experience flavor through scents. Attendees will be amazed at how smell can alter the perception of taste, creating a magical sensory illusion.

Featured in the Exhibit

Returning favorites from previous events will also make an appearance, including the world’s smelliest canned fish, "Surströmming", and odor profiles inspired by historical figures like Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Additionally, intriguing displays dissect the scents emitted by certain insects, providing fascinating insights appealing to all ages.

Special Events

For those daring enough, a rock-paper-scissors contest gives participants the chance to open a can of "Surströmming" on January 2 and 17, 2026. Anyone with a ticket for the day can enter this unique contest!

• - Discounts for Caregivers: ¥600 for both advance and same-day tickets; however, caregivers must present a document confirming they are accompanying the individual with disabilities.
