PMI U.S. Launches Year-Round Support Initiative for Veterans and Families

On November 24, 2025, PMI U.S., the American arm of Philip Morris International, made a notable effort to highlight the important role of individuals and nonprofits in supporting military personnel and their families year-round. Through their latest campaign, "Thanks for Giving," the company calls on Americans to acknowledge and assist organizations that contribute to strengthening military communities.

Marian Salzman, Senior Vice President of PMI U.S., emphasized that merely expressing gratitude during observances like Veterans Day and National Military Family Month is insufficient. She advocates for consistent support throughout the year. "We want to amplify the tireless efforts of advocacy organizations and inspire action among others," Salzman said. The initiative seeks to foster a culture of recognition and practical support, encouraging citizens to contribute actively to charitable causes that assist service members.

PMI U.S. has significantly deepened its commitment to veteran support following a listening tour conducted in 2023, where the company gathered feedback from service members and advocates. Their commitment has driven investments totaling $6.6 million in various programs dedicated to aiding veterans and their families since 2024. In 2025 alone, they allocated $195,000 through their WeCare program, which empowers employees to nominate nonprofits for company-funded contributions.

The company has partnered with a multitude of organizations to ensure their contributions yield tangible results. In 2025, PMI U.S. donated over $3.76 million to 52 organizations that aid veterans and military families. This included a notable $1 million contribution to the Bob Woodruff Foundation, along with support for legal clinics providing free counsel to veterans in need, amounting to $565,850.

PMI U.S. believes that their partnerships go beyond financial aid; they signify a shared dedication to fostering generosity as a regular practice. Bryan Meyer, a retired U.S. Marine Corps co-founder of the Veterans Community Project, noted, "PMI U.S.'s support has been crucial for us in offering safe, dignified housing for those who served our country."

Similarly, Mike Durkee, Executive Director of the Wounded Veterans Relief Fund, expressed gratitude for the funding, allowing them to provide dental care to veterans in distress. Steve Schwab, CEO of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, highlighted the partnership with PMI U.S. for helping reach military caregivers and enhance support networks for these often-overlooked individuals. Furthermore, Alison Weir from the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center indicated that PMI U.S.'s assistance has enabled them to offer vital legal guidance to veterans facing challenges.

In 2025, PMI U.S. broadened its impact by donating almost $12 million to over 500 nonprofit organizations across 47 states. This philanthropic effort spans support for veterans, local economic empowerment, disaster relief initiatives, and advancement in arts and culture. Their total donations since 2022 have reached an impressive $35 million.

The "Thanks for Giving" initiative aligns perfectly with PMI U.S.'s approach to realistic philanthropy that focuses on listening to community needs, making impactful investments, and uniting efforts to support valuable work. For those looking to contribute or learn more, there is an extensive list of organizations involved, ranging from local programs to well-known foundations, guaranteeing that anyone can get involved and assist our nation's heroes.

PMI U.S. remains steadfast in its commitment to foster a brighter future for veterans and their families. By continuously advocating for actionable support and encouraging community involvement, they represent a model of corporate responsibility that resonates not only within the business sector but also across all levels of society. Together, through consistent engagement, we can create a supportive environment that honors the sacrifices made by service members, allowing them to thrive in civilian life.
